Let's talk about cheap Ebay seats for a moment. You know the type. There are literally thousands of racing type recliners and buckets for between $100 and $200 per pair plus shipping. Most are rip off's/bootlegs of Japanese name brand racing seats. I'm sure most are also teh suck. But they can't all be, can they?

I need a set to replace my ugly stock Scout II seats. What I'm looking for is ease of mounting (little or no fab), wear/durability issues, quality, and comfort.

Specifically, are there any that bolt right in with little or no fabrication work? I don't weld and can't fab any brackets and am too lazy to try to find somebody to make me some. I'm looking for something easy.

Those of you who have bought some cheap Ebay racing style seats, how did they hold up over time? Did the fabric last? Did it start ripping the second week you had them in your rig? etc.

If you got reclining seats, did they work well?

Are they comfortable comparably to other seats?

What seats have you been happy with and/or what seats would you buy again?

Any and all help and/or suggestions and/or advice about this is, as always, greatly appreciated. Any photos or links to specific seats is even more appreciated (if they're good and worth buying, that is, lol.).

None will be a bolt in...sorry...:laughing:

There is nothing easy...:shaking: You will need to fab some kind of bracket to adapt hole center lines even for a stock bucket seat box.

Also any thing will be better than the poly buckets in my opinion. They are the only ones I have ever owned...Two different Scouts. Main reason I bought them is because I am POOR...and they are CHEAP.

I used 97 cavalier seats in the rock scout and my own rig. Very comfortable, cheap(15 each), and they have a square mounting pattern.


But, since your lazy and don't want to be bothered with anything, try sitting on a broom handle. :flipoff2:

I love my e-bay seats! Had them for just under 2 yrs now and they still look and work great. They recline and slide like new. The are 5 point black not cloth I think they are vinyl? so I can hose them off. I dig up some pix later :smokin:

I figured I wouldn't get that lucky. I had seen someone do a writeup on some '92 Mustang GT seats that pretty much bolted to the Scout tracks. I was hoping maybe some of the racing types would too. Oh well.:D I'm sure I can make something work. I'll just bong-engineer them in.

I appreciate the tip on the Integra seats. I've already checked around here and can't find any nice enough. Two generations of high school/college kids in those type/age cars and the seats are pretty thrashed. Your GSR seats look nice though.

As an aside, my stock seats are pretty nice except for one thing. Somebody long ago tried to paint over them with what I guess is vinyl/trim paint. The finish has long sinced started chipping. And those f'ing chips are small, stick to everything and only rub off the seats easily (not your clothes, lol). And they look like shit.

The seat covers I bought suck almost more than that though. They don't stay put, are ugly, etc. In fact, everything vinyl that used to be blue is now white with the blue slowly coming back out. The guy did the door panels, shifter console, and the front and back seats. I've already found some good door panels on Ebay and repainted the shifter console. I just need to take care of the seats now.

I will need some better seats one day too, the PickNPull ones here are toast anything good is gone the day they put the fresh cars out. How the hell do you own a Scout and are not a fabricator:shaking: I know what you mean though about reinventing the wheel and spending 8 hours making some custom parts only to find out the xxx one's bolt right in. The Seats that i have found most comfortable and are quality made are the Honda Prelude seats from the 80s and 90s. They have good lumbar and side supports. If you score a set of Prelude SI seats then the side bolsters and lumbar are adjustable as well as the drivers seat has a memory position so after putting it up to access the back it will go back to exactley were you set it and its all manual. Here are a few pics for identification. The black ones in the forground are Honda CRX and are fine if you are smaller. The grey seats on the end are Honda accord

The biggest thing is that they have good side support and lumbar. The APC seats are a junk and wear out and have this huge bump under your thigh and suck. They may look cool but ya get what ya pay for.

seems to me you need to figure which aftermarket seats bolt into a mustang...:idea:

the shipping on the Ebay cheap seats alone would put em off at $60 each. So $100 for a pair and $120 for shipping a nice total of $220 for seats.

Hell the last set of 35X12.5R16.5 LR E tires I shipped from Dessert Rat cost me $50 to ship the set. $60 each a seat seems like a scam to me.
