Just got an 87 sami and am putting waggy 44's under it with 5:38s. What I'm wondering is if 33 are big enough or should I go 35's mainll going to be a trail rig some rocks, home wheeling is hollister hills(top truck challenge)power is coming from a 4.3 votec. My other q's is what size rod ends should I use for my rear four link air shock conversion going to go 100-103 inch wb? thanks Ryan

Trail rig only... I would go at least 35's. The D44's can handle it. Might as well get some more ground clearance. You may end up putting on 33's, get pissed you didn't go bigger, than get bigger tires and then be even more pissed because you spent way too much money. For the rod ends on the four link, I am a fan of the UniBalls, Rubicon Express Joint, or Johhny Joints. Johnny joints are less expensive and some of them offer up to 30 degrees of misalignment. The Uniballs hit 32 degrees I belive. Try www.polyperformance.com for pricing and tech info.

Good set-up! I guess it would depend on your t-case gears and if you still have the 1.3.

With 5.38's in my 44's and my 4.16 t-case 33's were great. Could just crawl anything, had good street power. With 35's street was pretty good still, as I had a healthy engine, and crawling wasn't as slow over the real extreme stuff. Had to drive stuff more to keep moving. With the 33's it would creep and idle real low but either just go or spin the tires slowly while rockcrawling, With the 35's it would just die. A slightly lower t-case would have fixed that.

How much lift are you going to do? Wheelbase staying near stock? While stock WB I liked the 33's. Going up steep climbs and ledges it was still stable, with the 35's it liked to sit on the tail gate a lot more on the same trails. Either way can't go wrong.

Ok, re-read and see your gonna have a 4.3L. I'd go 35's without a doubt then! And rubicon express joints are what I prefer and use on mine.

So is your rear off set still? That would end up steering you into a direction on the t-case. With that set-up what about a dana 300? If your rear is offset, possibly a dana 18. Looking forward to seeing some pics.

Id go a dana 300 for the t-case and as for the tires with that much wheel base Id go 35s. I plan to have a similar wheel base and run 37s but im not to heavy on the right foot either.:D

Youd have to flip the D300 for it to work on a drivers drop front axle, but yea,the 300 is a great T-case in a Sammy. It fits well and is pretty compact.I run one behind my little V-6/T-5 combo.
I also run 44's but I think Ill gonna up my tires from 33's to 35's when the time comes.Heavier/taller springs are also gonne be in the works, since my big bumpers, winch and other accesories are starting to overload my super flexy 1" YJ lift springs.....so a few more inches of lift will be coming too.
I have only a slightly longer wheelbase from stock, but that can change.....besides,the axles are so heavy,I dont think itd be topheavy at all, even with taller tires and springs.
