I got it finished late last night just before sun-set, so sorry no action shots. This build-up has lasted the past 3 months and I'm very happy with the results. I did everything except the R&P set-up so this was also a big learning experience. I just thought I'd share. Syko will be posting the pics for me since I'm without star.
Here's the specs

Full Width 1 tons
HP60 from '79 F350- 5.13s w/ Detroit
14Bolt- 5.13s w/ Detroit
Rancho 44044 Springs F&R
F250 Towers up front
Warn 9500hsi
32 Bolt Allied Beaqdlocks
38" TSLs
OBA with York

There are some things I still need to do, like a full-cage, tie-rod above springs, and a real motor. But I'm going to run like this for a while and enjoy having it back on the trail.

Thanks to everyone from the board who answered questions for me (both directly and indirectly) and helped me through this build-up.

And in case you were wondering this all took place in that little single car garage in the pics:D amazingly w/o a single neighbor complaint:)

I still have my 2" BL on and I'll be pulling that out one of these days. I was just too lazy and excited to get it out of the garage that I said I'd do it later.

My motor limited the tires, if it was bigger they would be too. As it stands it doesn't feel to bad with the 38s and 5.13s. All the trimming was done to allow for larger tires in the future.

Right Awn, it looks good.
Now get out and at least wear the stickers off of the tires. :D

What engine, tranny, x-fer case you runnin' with that beast?

It's all stock and I didn't list it on purpose;)

But since you asked.....

4-banger/auto (904)/231(AA SYE)

I had 4.88s with 36" SXs and it wasn't bad at all. I moved to 5.13s with the 38 TSLs (about the same weight as a 36 SX by the feel of picking one up) and it feels about the same. But man does my engine love to scream now, it runs around 3000 at 50 mph:D. I've always heard that 4-bangers love high rpms:emb:

I'll change the motor out one day, but it hasn't failed me yet and that entitles it to stay

'sallright - can't do everything at once anyway, gotta get out & go wheelin' some. I was just asking mainly to see what tranny/xfer case folks run with the driver drops...

LOOKS SWEET MAN!

I feel your pain with the 4 banger. So the 5.13's & 38's are tolerable? But you are in a flat state. I put 5.38's in mine & im pickin up the 36" TSL's saturday. If yours is fine i guess my 5.38's will be OK, since you have a lot more unsprung weight. I just havent got a chance to drive it yet so I was wondering.

Nice looking ride, and are they ever really done??? Hopefully i will get to check it out in person at the next EROCC!

5.13s are good. It screams on the highway. Won't win any good commuter car awards but for 55mph and under driving I can't complain. It'll work well in 4lo off road, I can tell. I was lucky and my partner from ERocC ran these tires on a 4-banger with 4.88s before so i knew to jump to 5.13s and it would work well.

I had 4.88s with 36" SXs and it was good (I said this earlier I know) so your 5.38s will be plenty, I can guarantee that. But keep in mind I have an automatic trans, that makes a HUGE difference off-road (is yours manual or auto?).

Those are 38's in the pictures??? Why is it sooo tall? Rockslut runs Wago's and 38's and his isn't nearly that tall.

He runs 39.5s now:D

I have a 2" BL that I need to yank, I'm just too lazy. The 44044s are tall and will settle with use I'm sure. It's 84" tall now.

Are those axles about 69"?

The front is supposed to be 69" and the rear is 67".

By the way I checked out that site you had posted, I don't see a difference. If you take the bumper into perspective instead of the body, then they are almost exactly the same in appearance. With my BL and all my trimming if you look at the bodies it can be deceiving though.

Either way my WB is ~100" so I'm happy.

Mine is a manual, how is the auto with the 4 banger? I think at some point i will want an auto, they seem to allow you to drive more instead of concentrating on not stalling it. The auto will most likely come with the motor swap when my squirrels get tired & die.

I wouldn't want to wheel w/o it:D

I had a buddy with a manual, basically the same Jeep as mine (back when I had 33's), and he was constantly frying his clutch trying not to stall but still crawl. The torque converter on the auto helps some too. I think with 5.38s though you don't have a thing to worry about, but I still love my auto:D .

Cool man! Thanks for the vote of confidence, only two more days and i get to see how those 5.38's feel. Now i just gotta get the $$ for beadlocks & a 4.1. i guess i will get the 4.1 until i decide what drivetrain i am going with next summer. 5.0/c6/atlas2 or 5.0/np435/d20 or 4.3/700r4/d300(flipped) or4.3/sm465/atlas2....
Then some 1 ton axles? It never ends!!

Hell man, just be glad you got her together! Slap a cage in & wheel the fawk out of it:D:D

Where abouts do yall go to wheel around there?
And why are the shackles leaning outboard?
It looks setup real nice for the goo.
Awesome job doing it in a small garage like that it looks like tight quarters glad no one got upset about the noise.

I have my own private rock garden because I work for a mining company. I also have a tow vehicle and trailer so I can get further north:)

And why are the shackles leaning outboard?

I attribute that to worn out rubber bushings on the frame. I have new polyurethane ones I just didn't put them on yet;)

Built it for rocks, but I'll definitely try the local mud pits out:D

Wow a rock garden that's cool. I lived down in Port Charlotte for a long while. I'd have to haul my arse 10 hours north to Tellico and parts to see any decent rock. I remember lot's of the guys down there just didn't understand why I had lockers and why I didn't pull the 22R in the Toy and replace it with a 350 :)
Good for you bucking the trend and all.

bigdude, are you coming back up for the June EROCC? I was wondering if you could drive as well as you spotted. Hope to find out, I'm going back to run over some more cones!

What is the backspacing on those wheels?

Did you move the spring mounts to increase the wheelbase (or is it sping center offset only)?

I'm collecting parts as we 'speak' to do almost the exact same thing to my CJ7 [except I'll be using Hummer wheels w/ 7" backspacing and stock waggy springs]. I'm hoping mine turns out a little narrow-er and slightly shorter.

Congrats - it looks sweet!

Looks great bigdude, but your not quite ready to relax yet.
You really need to get rid of the BL, you will appreciate the extra effort for doing it,...and you really have to build a cage, you cant build as potentialy extreme as youve built your rig, and not put a full cage at the top of your "To Do"list. The way I look at it is, .You can break shit all day long on the trail, and its still a good day, and another story to tell, but if someone gets baddly hurt (especialy one of your passengers), then its a very bad day.
Cages are easy and affordable, so its just a lack of respect for the dangers of sport to not build one.

Hell yes, that was just too fun Mr. Bulldozer;) I will still just be spotting though because I think it's fun:) I liked our group too, especially that dude who was with you and started yelling at the judge- just plain entertaining, especially after the Jeep exploded

Backspacing is 3.5" and the spring mounts are stock. The wheelbase is just from the offset pins. Sounds like you'll be just where you want with 7" BS and stock waggy springs. Watch out with those hummer rims if your running locking hubs, they'll stick out like a mofo:eek:

I hear ya. I'm grooving the swampers this weekend and will probably pull the BL next week/weekend. The cage is also on top of the list like you said. I have a friend with a bender (JD2 I believe) and I'll be picking up some tube next weekend. It'll all get done but I just had to pull the damn thing out and start driving it again:beer:

I like it. that must be cool to be sponsored by McDonalds:flipoff2:

We'll probably try to do something similar. I really like the back half of your cage that I saw in your other post. Why do you prefer a front hoop as opposed to two "L"s of the center hoop? It looks like the front hoop could handle a side impact better but I'm just speculating so please enlighten:beer:

McDonalds as a sponsor, damn I could only wish I could get into those deep pockets.

The cage is the way it is just because thats how it has evolved.
I built it out of a 94 YJ cage and my 89 YJ cage, about 4 years ago, in a dirt field with no bender.
It has been in 6 hard rollovers, and dozens of flops, and it has held up fairly well. It did take quite a bit of persuading to get it square again before I added the new bars.
I added the new rear bars, because I moved my body mounts inside the frame rails and wanted a tie in straight down to the mounts. The others were just to tie in the tubed rocker panels and give it some rigidity.
Its all temporary though, because as soon as I can beg some free time from Scout Dude, Im gonna have him bend me up some tube for an entire new cage (with a little planning this time around). This cage should be fine though in the meantime. I rolled it 360 degrees, back onto the wheels a couple of weeks ago and everything held up pretty well.(and that was before most of the modifications).
There are a lot of different schools of thought on cage design.
I like the stuff sillyneck has been fabbing, and Joel turns out some very nice cages. You just have to decide what you want, buy a hundred feet of tube and get it bent, and weld it up.
