: For the Rover guy who has everything
dukguy 12-06-2006, 01:53 PM How about a Rover camper. I saw this on Ebay and thought it would be a cool camper and a good conversation piece ( I have no ties to this auction). If this breaks the rules sorry OS. If you want to check it out its #330058679068.
aloharover 12-06-2006, 06:50 PM What I was amazed by is how small they actually are when you get up close to them.
Now there is a Dormobile on Ebay currently.

ChicagoDII 12-07-2006, 12:32 AM I like the front Sals, but 6 lugs?
m016324 12-07-2006, 01:53 AM I have to say one of my favortie rover stories of all times is because of a FC. I think it was Craig Reece who had one at a strip mall during this time of year a couple of years ago. he went in to shop and came outside to see fire engines and police everywhere. He asked what was going on and someone said that a lady had reported a terrorist vehicle that was leaking something on the ground in the parking lot or something like that. So they called the bomb squad and everything. Turned out it was Chris' leaky FC painted camo that they were so worried about. There is a much better version of that story somewhere but I am sure someone can tell it.

Somewhere in the back of my mind is the storey behind that but can't seem to find it at the moment.
The FC was a prime mover for arty pieces, maybe it shares a bolt pattern with those.....that doesnt sound right though.
I just read the sellers ebay description, 70mph?? Don't these have 5.x:1 differential in them?
Target fuel consumption 14mpg? I see why its listed as the "target"
Seller has been on ebay a year and still has a 0 rating?
aloharover 12-07-2006, 04:49 AM There are two of them now.
Sea Rover you know this one, in Seattle? Not a very well written add. Riveted rims? wtf?

Yorker 12-07-2006, 05:38 AM According to a friend of mine, (Howard Smith-A brit ex-pat 101 guru who has owned them for years)6-lug because the Artillery (105?) used 6 lug rims. Supposedly it was some NATO standard that also was used on the Gamma Goat, Unimog, etc. I don't know how well they'd interchange in reality though. Probably worked fine between the Arty and the 101 but I've never seen anyone put a 'goat or Unimog rim on a 101?

Far as I know the guy is legit - he imports and sells quite a few ex-Mil Mogs and is known in that community.
PTSchram 12-07-2006, 09:17 AM There was a really, nice one in Kansas. Somebody (who will remain nameless to protect the guilty) offered a stupidly lowball price and got shot down.
pendy 12-07-2006, 10:17 AM :D Think I will make a run at the one in Ontario now:D
That 101 could be in my possesion now for all you know!

Serious One 12-07-2006, 10:40 AM 101 rims and mog rims are interchangeable.
Yorker 12-07-2006, 04:52 PM Back in November John Dillingham listed a 101 for sale on the LRO list I think it was just a GS though. Not sure if it got sold or not. For the benefit of anyone who missed it:

A friend of mine has decided to part with his 101. Never shoulda bought it in the first place, but there you are.
Its a troop transport, dodgy canvas top. Winch on side of transfer case. 24volt. I did a little brake work on it. A couple years ago, It would jump start fairly easily after sitting for a while. Now, who knows? Problem in transmission or transfer gears. I'd like to see him get fortyfive hundred for it. I know he's taking a beating, but, I refer to the 2nd sentence, above.
Call me at 770-853-3557 or email me off list. I cant put it on LRX cos I'm not the owner, anyway I should offer to the list first, shouldn't I? Its here at my place, north of Atlanta.

16" series rims are riveted- at least mine are- the centers are riveted in. They often rust and leak around the rivets when you try to run them tubeless- iu think that is why it is now popular to galvanize rims. 15" rims were welded IIRC.

Ahh, I got ya. Both of my Series had stock 15". Have never really looked closely at the 16 before.
Yorker 12-07-2006, 06:40 PM I hear you- the first time I heard about riveted rims I said WTF?!? All I had were 15"s and they were welded so I thought they all were like that. To this day I don't know why the 15s were welded and the 16s were not.
JLanigan 12-08-2006, 08:31 AM aloha's right, 101's are actually quite small, i'd seen all the pics in mags and read all about them but the first time i saw one i thought to myself, thats kinda cute, looks like a mini 101.
and yeah, the mog rims are a relatively common swap

I saw my first one in person parked next to a 109. Definately has a large load space, but it's shorter then the Series. Just looked strange. And it's so tall, but not tall enough to stand up in the back. Thats when I realised the idea of using one for a camper was just impractical, imo. And the Dormobile is a better option.
My idea for a rover camper would combine a 4-door truck cab, 127 ambulance body, and a pop top. Extend the over cab area of the ambulance to cover the longer cab. Hinge the top at the front. Sleep in the cab over, and have standing room in the back. CTD with an auto tranny, d60/d70 f/r. Will end up between a 150-160 wheel base. And probably cost me 60+ to build. maybe after I retire
