: Suggestion for New topic of the week
Shrock 05-09-2002, 09:29 AM Cages
Pics, thoughts, available and coming products etc.
I think there is enough debate on this board on pipe vs tube, so let's try not to re-hash that one too much.
mud-magnet 05-09-2002, 10:12 AM CAGE: something that is well worth the money for the safty of you and the passengers........ its on my list for one on my next mods........:flipoff2:
Rudezuk 05-09-2002, 10:48 AM I put one in a few years ago......3 days after i did, i had my first full roll over!!!
Since then i have had it over a couple more times and it has saved my ass!

I saw you wheel at bassie......This would be a good thing for you to get:flipoff2:
Has anybody have a pic of a decent exo for a sammy.?.. I want an exo but all the ones I have seen are friggin' ugly! I love the look of scaw's front clip and chris's front clip and would like to do something along the lines of that.... and maybe tie in some kind of exo if I can design something that's gonna look good. If not the front fenders will be tube and I'll put a cage inside I guess.....

c'mon guys, let's see some pics of your cages.
Here is the basic design I am leaning toward...thoughts?

Anyone have any thought on the petroworks cage. There was a raing debate on ORDC board I searched up about the dends making it weak, but everyone who had seen one rolled said it held up real well including one Zuk that went over a 10ft drop.
Shrock 05-09-2002, 07:36 PM One other one I like made by bill4est:
Shrock 05-09-2002, 07:37 PM 2of3
Shrock 05-09-2002, 07:39 PM 3of3
Azrckcrawler 05-10-2002, 08:33 AM Do they brace that mini-exo at all where it mounts to the cowl? I just can't see that taking any sort of hit, mine didn't.

I like the Davesport, simple, clean. That whole ORC thing was lame. That Petroworks cage is weaker due to those jogs. Will it hold up? sure, the stock crap held up great on my first roll (massive wheelie followed by a graceful pirouette for style points then over and onto the top). I don't remeber saying it was crap, it's better than stock but for the same money you can get one without the pretty bends.

OzzZuki 05-13-2002, 08:59 AM I plan on doin an exo cage here with in the next couple of months. Right now I have working on a flat bed with fuel cell and tool box capable of going over. Also im setting up a Coil suspension with my bro ShadowZuk. Ill post some pics of my exo in july sometime. :vader2:
dangerber 05-13-2002, 02:57 PM Some shots from dumb...
dangerber 05-13-2002, 02:58 PM And exo...
The first pic is Ben from OTT's rig (it's an LJ80 on multilinked airbags, vw TD, SM465, toycase /dana 300 [I think], with a 44 front and a 9" rear all on 36 sx's. The cage is simple yet functional (the way it should be). (yes that's a over a full score on a 30 with an 80" wheelbase, and you'd be hard pressed to even pull it over)
The second pic is Dave (not me) from T&S suspension. Dave makes some really nice stuff including this exo which is completely bolt on. It mounts to his bumpers (front and rear) and to his rocker protection. The tubing Is in the neighborhood of 1.75" or so (I didn't have my tape). The other thing of interest is that Dave makes his own leaf springs from scratch (his specialty) that is a "stock" spring over with a full score on a 30*. They ride soooooooo nice and stand up to abuse way better tahn stockers, yj's or any othe config, I've seen on a SOA sami.
Just a couple of thoughts.
Dave

Sounds like PetroWorks which is what it looks like I'm gonna buy. Does it look like this?

Dychen 05-19-2002, 01:45 AM nope, its alot simpler then that with no protection for the people in the backseat -actually my spare parts and cooler-
Roksamy 05-19-2002, 11:05 AM remember that your cage is there to protect your dome in the event that gravity disagrees with your line ....anything else is jungle gym crap.

How big is the tube? I could be an old Samurai Motorsports cage.
It seems to me like there is not enough room to go beside the dash and door?? Anyone make this work??
Shrock 05-20-2002, 02:12 PM Most vendors do it that way with 1.5" tube. Tight but works

People always ask me if I can still put my top on, yes I can. I used the stock hoop, but lowered it by 1" to help clear the targa bar. I still needed to massage it a little:D
