a friend of mine has the 13 drawer bottom chest...he's a mercedes tech but he just got in to it and is trying to get his tools up to what he needs before he starts spednding money on boxes...he's been using it about 2 years now and it seems to be holding up all right, he tries not to roll it around alot as its not as rigid as the better boxes, especially with another box on top.

A neighbor has one of those--top and bottom. Made in Canada, I believe. He's had it for about three years. They're obviously not Snappy or Matco, but, from what I've seen, they're worth the money.

My son's got the Husky top/bottom. Good quality at a good price (less than Craftsman for sure). And he got it on some sort of manager's special to boot. The ball bearing drawers are a really a good feature once you start loading them up with heavy stuff. Most hobbists just want a good/safe place to organize and store their tools. Snap-on, MATCO, Kennedy, MAC, et al, have really nice tool boxes, but they are way outta my league.

I've got three Craftsman boxes and the casters are a definite weak point. So I gotta agree with not rolling the thing around too much. But most people don't 'wheel' their tools around a building, unless you are into some sort of maintenance work.

Keep an eye out on ebay

You would be surprised at some of the deals on top brand boxes

the main advantage to a big brand is the boxes they will last a lifetime
I had some craftsman boxes with the caster problems but my problem with them happened when the locking features failed and I had complete drawers emptied. plus I have a lowes box with the drawers sagging and the bearings failing

You're better off talking to a local tool truck guy and asking him about a used box. My used MAC has gotten beaten up moving and my Snap-Onman still offers me more in trade than what I paid for it. Considering he is offering me another used box in trade for my used box, I don't think he's taking as much advantage of me as he would on a new Snap-On box.

I have a craftsman professional. I built a 2x2 angle frame to support the box, and welded 2x2 square tubing under that. I have 8" performa rubber series 6 casters from http://www.americancaster.com/ I'm pretty happy with the setup. The toolbox doesn't shake the tools at all, and is a perfectly quiet ride across the hangar, can't even hear it. I do need to reinforce the frame I made though, I'm bending the 1/2" plate the wheels are on. That's what happens with a 1700# toolbox.

While I know the quality and pure ability of Snap On and Matco cant be beat I am trying to find a bit larger box for my small custom shop.At the current time I lack the funds and to be honest I dont want to pay 3K for a tool box or more. Thanks for the feed back and have fun wheeling.

I just got the Husky Pro 40" bottom box. I didn't need the top box at this time, but may add a side box later. So far I really like it. The slides are nice and once I've used it some more, the catches won't be so hard. I have to close my drawers pretty hard to get them to stay. Other than that, I really like it. It fits the Hansen trays on the top drawer without any problem. Now I just need to make a couple dividers for my misc crap and it will be good. Can' beat the price. I looked at TSC and Sears and Lowes before getting the Husky. The TSC one didn't seem very well built to me. The Lowes and Sears ones were just as nice as the Husky, but a little more spendy. The Craftsman was about $300 more. I only use it in a hobbiest shop, so I think it will be just fine.

The harbor freight box is the best deal hands down. I did a lot of research and price comparison and the HF box is the best deal by far. I have a lot of friends with the Craftsman boxes and this is much nicer, sturdier, and cheaper than their boxes. The craftsman box just seemed so flimsy, and I didnt want to pay $5000 for a box. Ive had the HF box (US General) for a few months now and I love it.

Also, i got the top, bottom, and side for around $900. Cant beat that

I gotta agree w the eBay suggestion. That's what I did. The tool truck boxes go for way less used than what they sell for new, usually .20 to .40 on the dollar. Sure, it might be used but you can likely get more box for your $. Local classifieds of course too. Baby-on-the-way deals are always out there.

Have you seen what they charge for those things? Christ it's nearly as much as a lower box, for a fraction of the storage space.
