Anybody got any hints on removing these things? I sprayed Liquid Wrench on 'em, double-nutted 'em, they show no signs of moving. Are we talking pulling the knuckle and cranking on it with a pipe wrench?

DON'T USE A PIPE WRENCH or you risk damaging the shanks wherre the cone washers compress.

Heat up the knuckle at the base of the stud with some low temp flame, melt a little candle wax around the base of the stud and the heat will draw the wax into the threads. Then just double nut the stud and it should come right out. Make sure you clean the wax out before you reinstall them.

I used a stud remover from sears...worked fine on all the ones I've used it on.

Thanks. I'll try the candle wax thing first, since I don't want to wait a week for the Sears part.

Sears usually has them sitting on the shelf.

I'll stop on the way home. Hey - wax AND a stud remover!
