: Carrier pinion shaft opinion needed

I posted yesterday about the carrier pinion shaft being stuck because of the shaft bolt had broken. I am wondering now if the bolt broke because of the play on the shaft wher the two spider gears ride? I have about .006-.008 wear shown on the shaft where the spiders rotate.
I ordered a new shaft and was curious if I should worry about the wear on the spiders? I would assume the shaft is a softer material than the spiders gears and perhaps the spider gears are not worn.

any thoughts?

thanks

It is not likely that the gears themselves are worn. Just check the clearance on the new shaft. It is hard to know why the retainer pin breaks. It often breaks with a couple of threads remaining on the pin and can be a PITA to get out. It sounds like you already got the old one out.

Pin, thanks fopr the reply... The new pinion shaft is ten days out with Toyota, do you think the .006 is too much to re use the original shaft? I can definately see wear there where the spiders rode?
