: 'nother Newbie
dbear 12-10-2006, 09:43 PM Thought I'd sign up over here and look around. I been around on Binder Bulletin, JustIH and Old IHC for quite a while.
My ride is a '76 Traveller, 345 auto, MegaSquirt injection. Mostly stock otherwise but not forever. About to tear out the carpet and line the inside with something. Not sure what yet - I can't afford rhino.
My other binder is a 56 S100 PU.
binderbasher 12-10-2006, 10:54 PM Just a gest for ya, I would just keep looking around unless you have some good tech, or buildup to offer. Buy a red star and search. This is not the binderbulletin there be sharks here:evil:
Blind Driver 12-11-2006, 06:27 AM Unless your asking hardcore tech q's, most here are not interested :shaking:
Most of the noob q's are better answered on the binder bulletin
dbear 12-11-2006, 08:02 AM Well, Thanks for the heads up guys. I can offer quite a bit of experience with fuel injecting binders and other vehicles but if it's not wanted you can kiss my ass. Oh, and I've never had a internet flame send me to the hospital so i'm really skeered.

For efi tech most of us here go to the BB :D --- it is still the best and no since diluting the IH efi tech world by having stuff on 2 sites....

Welcome :flipoff2:
ChiScouter 12-11-2006, 08:28 AM Finally someone plans on pulling up their carpeting and putting something underneath. Ive been waiting years for someone to try it. Please post pics as you go

Thanks for the civil response. :D It's nice to see this place is not completely full of badass Internet thugs. I was skeered there for a minute.(not)
Makes sense about the efi stuff being on Binder Bulletin.
I try to post only when I know I can help someone out. Mostly I just read and learn. I respect those who are willing to share their hard earned knowledge and try not to waste their time.
I think it hilarious how people on forums like to jump on the newbies. Guess it helps their self esteem somehow. But it's real useful for separating the jerks out from the decent folk.
Blind Driver 12-11-2006, 08:57 AM I'm gonna line-z my entire tub.
Will prob happen this spring :cool2:
I saw a pick-up about a year ago that was sprayed on the outside. Guess it'll keep that Furd from rusting
chandall 12-11-2006, 09:11 AM Everyone is a noob in there own way, they just wont admit it :p
Welcome
Hey welcome! Pirate salute:flipoff2: As for the interior I removed the carpet repaired the rust ( cut and welded in new) and cleaned it up real good. I used a wire wheel and wet and dry sanding pad, and then washed it out with soap and water. I used seam seal on some areas to help keep water out. I painted RustStop over everything and let that dry for several weeks. Then I bought ceramic paint additive (http://www.hytechsales.com/insulating_paint_additives.html)and mixed it with rustoleum's painter touch qt cans and painted 3 heavy coats on the floor over 3 days. I then just let it dry. I was surprised how hard this stuff dries (summer time), and it has a slight sandy texture. Without carpet it's a lot noisier on the Freeway.
Post some pic's of your FI pump setup. Are you running an accumulator?

Thanks for the positive responses guys. I wasn't really asking how to line my interior(I was just being polite and making an intro) but I really appreciate your ideas. I'm SLOWLY fixing up the scout (my wife is disabled and money is tight) but I'll get it to where I want it to be someday.
Right now I'm just using a holley pump mounted on the frame rail with no accumulator/surge tank but I'm getting starvation on turns with a low tank so
I'm gonna change that soon. I've used a surge tank on another(non scout, non 4x4) FI project and it worked out well.

This guy used a fuel filter as a surge tank
dbear 12-11-2006, 05:01 PM I was planning try to use a fuel filter with a plastic shell and replacable cartridges that I found at tractor supply. It would be about the same setup.
The one I built was 3 inch metal pipe about 7 in with welded cap on one end and a screw on cap on the other. It was fed from a low pressure feed pump at the
tank and held an internal high pressure pump from a camaro. The pressure and return lines fed out through a couple of brass fitting brazed on. The pump wires came out a fluid tight feed through I found at work. Whole thing worked pretty well. Zero fuel starve no matter how many g's until the tank was flat empty.
To those who may have been offended by my earlier posts I offer my apologies. I probably won't be spending much time here anyway unless I get some decent cash to work on my ride.

Those will work if you extend the center pick up with a tube so it's down on the bottom of the filter.
Most are designed to be a filter and water seperator so they pull from the top.

waste of time and to much work for what you get... ever think about just 2 coats of herculiner and being done with it.

Too many horror stories about guys drinking beer and applying herculiner at the same time. read
How to get herculiner off your Hootus (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=18595)
I used the stuff and if works OK if you like black, I've used under the Scout. As for too much work, prep of any "paint" job is all the work. Applying it takes no time at all. I paid $8.95 for enough to make a gallon. Stuff dries like powder coat too. I would have to see about getting a tinted version as black would be like driving in hell around here during the summer. A 1/4 thick application would help with noise too, but the Line-X guys think there $hit is made of gold. Even buying your own is not cheap at about $100 for a 1/16" coating. I've got like $25 into mine an it provides a radiant barrier too:)
dbear, I like your idea about the intank fuel pump as this would help with keeping the pump cool.
dbear 12-12-2006, 03:59 PM not only does the circulating fuel cool the pump but:
- You can use standard in-tank EFI pumps this way. They're cheap on ebay $40-50 for NOS.
- It's easy to change the pump if it goes bad. It sucks changing a pump in the tank.
It does require a feed pump at the tank (a cheap facet).
Not really my original idea though - I lurk around a lot.
472Scout 12-13-2006, 02:53 AM One thing about that megasquirt. What's the plan when you're 1000 miles from home on memorial day weekend and that motherboard fries?
dbear 12-13-2006, 01:58 PM A spare. I will admit a '7747 is easier to replace though. I like MS because I control everything and can change it at will with the basic setup. I did use a '7747 setup in one of my brothers projects though. It worked quite well but I didn't have to tune it.
