Last weekend we anchored out along racoon straight and caught a bunch or rays and sharks(little) I have also been crabbin on the Ft Baker pier recently but didn't go for dungees in pacifica or tomales. I really like to fish the delta but the more time I spend on the bay the more I am liking it. I have really strayed away from freshwater fishing this year but plan on doing some bass fishing this spring.

where are your favorite spots?

I grew up on, and am a huge fan of delta fishing. If i had a boat capable of bigger water i would be out there in the bay too. Right now i usually rock my mastercraft out on the Montezuma slough for 'dinos.

I have yet to catch a sturgeon, I am hopefully going to be putting in the time this year.

As far as I know you only need your saltwater liscence, if that, to catch dungees off the pier in pacifica. I think the limit is 2 traps per person. Most public piers do not require a liscence but i'd look at the regs before I went for crab. the minimum for dungees is 6" and for rock crab is 4" rock crab you can catch in the bay, not dungeness. i don't know the limit for dungeness but you can keep 35 rock crabs per person. last time i went for the rock crab we came home with about 20 crabs. I used chicken liver for bait, but just about anything will work, fish heads if your butcher has em.

If I told people where I fish, there wouldn't be any big ones there any more. ;)

Ha Ha! Very true. I am keeping some of my better spots to myself, but by saying i fish the delta, I am not giving up any "honey holes"

We were heading there, but it was choppy(small boat), so we stopped just behind the Mare Island rockwall, caught it there.
See map where it says 'here" with a line & dot.

Was out at the mouth of Sonoma Creek yesterday, no sturgeon. One small striper and two bullheads, weather was great.

How much over the snow help you need and where you at? This IS the time of year for big fish, but would rather be fishin than strappin and winchin - better places for that. Could probably get behind bowman, unless you want take boat to hell hole.

I believe you don't need a fishing license to fish from a public peir in California.

It depends on the pier.... I have seen a guy get busted for fishin off the pier in Antioch with no liscnese, but I know that the Martinez pier is cool to fish without one....

Does anyone know the exact rule?

RockBottom

The rule is it must be a public pier.

What constitutes a public pier?? The two in Antioch have public access?

Maybe I am just a little slow:D

Antioch isn't OK to fish from without a liscence, to be sure just pick up the DFG booklet when you buy your bait.

http://www.ebparks.org/parks/antioch.htm

Edit: this page says you need a liscence, the DFG regs seem to indicate otherwise
