: F350 Shackle reversal hellllppp..
SLICK RICK 05-09-2002, 07:27 PM Hey fello Ford nuts...... I need help with doing a shackle reversal.. I know ORU has a kit but the MSRP is $399 and I am not wanting to spend that much for a couple of brackets.. does anyone know of anybody else that sells a more resonably priced kit or has anyone ever made their own? I am pretty decent when it comes to fabrication and before I head out and try to copy ORU's kit I was hoping somebody else had a better idea... THanks... anyone have any Rear 6inch leaf springs for sale for 97 F250/350 ??
Thanks for any help....

Joshua J. Allan 05-09-2002, 09:50 PM You can always move the springs up under the chassis. That way there are no flip kit brackets. A little more work, but I think it's worth it.

I think he was talking about the front. Real easy to make.
there is another place that makes them. did you get the 4x rag with the yellow ford on the front(tonka2 or somthing). he has it in the front of his rig. i dont have my mag with me but i can post the name of the place later on tonight.
Yeah, this is pretty much what I did w/my SAS. I used front hangers from an '77 F250 and rear hangers from an '86 F350. On the rear hangers I moved the hole up and trimmed off the excess, just like the ORU kit tells you to do. I used stock shackles for rear leaf springs. Since the front framerail is too narrow, you need to either 1) box and widen it at the same time, or 2)box it and use some DOM tubing like I did, 3) modify/narrow the '77 hangers.
Yes, the ORU kit is highway robbery. And I should say NONE of this was my idea, board member Ulitm8Kaos did it first and I copied him (with his help LOL!). But if you look at what I did you'll see it's just a home-brew ORU shackle reversal.

SLICK RICK 05-11-2002, 06:35 AM d60.... thanks soo much.. This is what this board is all about......you have helped me tremendously and your pictures are worth a million bucks... thanks thanks thanks....
How did you set your front hangers? are there any holes to start with or did you make both holes for the tubing? I am worried that I am not going to get my front to rear measures right.. Are the springs under the frame or beside it like stock? do you have any more pics you could E-mail me? if so can you send to Rick_DeRose@afcc.com . thanks thanks thanks you really have helped me out .... I wish I could help you with something.. Need a trailer? I have one I will make you a killer deal on !! Ok I will let you know how it goes with the shackle kit... No way I am paying $400..... take care will check back later..
Rick .....
The springs are just under the framerails. You couldn't inboard them w/out some serious fab work.
The holes for the DOM were just eyeballed and drilled (make sure you have good bits up to 3/4"), and it shows LOL! You can't see it in the pics but once the bolts are run one front hanger is slightly cocked but sits up against the bottom of the framerail while the other one has like a 3/16" gap from the bottom of the framerail. No worries, the spring eye bushings take it all in stride.
Anyway, it should be really easy for you 'cause your rear hangers are already attached to the frame. All you'll have to do is make the front hangers fit the front frame horns, slap a shackle in back and you're done.
As for fore/aft placement of the front hanger, it should be ok if you just keep the spring eye in the same vertical plane as the old front shackle pivot (ie straight under it).
This whole swap is gonna give you like 2" lift BTW... and you might consider just eliminating the track bar. As best I can tell, it's only there 'cause those stock front shackles are narrow up top, making them sketchy. Good luck!
SLICK RICK 05-12-2002, 04:56 PM Thanks D60 you have been SOOOO helpful.... I am definitly going to do this.. I was a little concerned since I drive this everyday but I think I can do as good a job as what is on there right now... I am only worried now about getting the springs square to the frame for alignment purposes..I will be doing this very soon so I will get back with ya.. THanks again...
Slick.........
SLICK RICK 05-13-2002, 07:20 PM Has anyone else done this??? thanks

J-Roc 01-27-2003, 07:29 PM Keith, got any extra front hangers laying around? ;) I may just "copy" your design but instead of using the 77 hangers, I may just go ahead and use the Excursion hangers I got here. These things drop almost 4 inches, plus they look up to the challenge of taking a beating. I mean if it can handle the Excursion with the weight of a PSD, then it should be more than enough for my rig.
Doug K 01-28-2003, 05:45 AM Rick, clean out your PM box.

bent70 01-29-2003, 03:21 PM this one is outboard and using the stock front hanger (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/scottsbent70/lst?.dir=/70%27+bronco/shackle+flip&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/)
this is on a bronco but is the same idea.
SLICK RICK 01-29-2003, 10:17 PM Box is clean...... Bent thanks but everything has changed since I first posted this......
XJ have not 01-29-2003, 10:49 PM Rick, what change or changes since first posted? I would like to do the same type stuff
SLICK RICK 01-30-2003, 04:54 PM I am running Rockwells now and will build large front brackets and build some custom rear hangers.. I just bought a Plasma cutter so I have a lot more options now..... but all in all its very easy.... I will have pics later keep checking my posts under Rockwells...
J-Roc 02-06-2007, 10:39 AM Slick, do u have any pics of your rig?
SkysTheLimit 02-06-2007, 11:11 AM Sky Manufacturing up here in Oregon makes the shackle reversal for our rigs, also. I don't remember how much they cost, though. It's been a while since I've looked. They have both a 3" lift shackle reversal, and a 5" lift shackle reversal. I was thinking of running the 5" with my 6" springs so I could run some serious meats, but I haven't gotten the money for the kit plus new tires yet. Sky Manufacturing also has rear shackle flip kits you can buy that give you a 4" lift in the rear. I think the website is www.sky-manufacturing.com
J-Roc 02-06-2007, 08:28 PM I know Sky ;) He does good work...I wanna see some pics of Slick Ricks beast!!!
