Went to Northern Tool and saw a horizontal/vertical band saw on sale for 179.00. I realize its cheap but I really need one and it seems well built.
(as well built as under 200 bucks can be anyways)
I plan on using one for doing a linked rear on the CJ and other general jeep fab.
Anybody use one?

I can't imagine it's one bit different than the Harbor Freight version, which is discussed frequently on this board.

Actually it looks like Northern is still using the "old" version, while HF now has the "new red" version. There's also been some discussion of that. Brief mention here:

Also start around post #17 here:

Note you should be able to get the HF version for about $130 if you shop carefully, so Northern's is nothing to write home about at ~$180

Also, are

www.harborfreightusa.com/usa/common/start.do

Holy shit I shouldn't enable your no-red-star-helplessness any further

Over a year old thread but might help you some:

Note that 90% of the time HF cashiers simply don't give a shit. I've taken screen prints from when I was a member of their Inside Track club and they honored 'em barely blinking an eye. I coulda easily photochopped the price(s) to whatever I wanted on the screen prints, but I didn't. They'll usually honor prices in the mail order catalogs, too, even tho the mail order and retail sides are technically different.

I picked up the Northern one about 1.5 years ago, for $75. That was the price on the website, I printed it out and took to the store. Manager said no way, had to be an error, but I finally got it for the advertised price. By the time I got home, the website was fixed to the "correct" sale price of $175. :)

There are differences in the saws. One of the more notable is some have stamped steel blade guide arms (that hold the roller bearings that guide and support the blade). Others have cast guide arms. My saw has the cast arms. Also HP varies on these saws, often from one lot to the next. They are either 1/3, 1/2, or 3/4 HP. The saw I got is 3/4.

There are some really good websites about these particular saws. Google "4x6 band saw" or similar. There are a couple of threads here on pirate about these saws that give links to other sites with good tech about them.

Grabbed one of these a few months back...

Works great!

The only problem I ran into was the fact that the instructions to put it together sucked. After that tho, it has done good for me...
