Hey guys,
I'm doing a serpentine belt conversion on my 302 using Mustang parts. My question is how close is close enough on the accessories lining up? I am off about 1/8 from the crank to the p/s and and another 1/8 from the p/s to the a/c (on-board air baby!). I need some advice!!!

well considering it has grooves i think a lil bit is ok, but you will find out for sure when you fire it up! jiMMy

No more information???? C'mon muthas, I need help here! For anybody running a serpentine belt, do all of your accessories line up perfectly or is there one or two that are off. If so, do you have problems with your belts?

Your good to go, just set your Rev limit to 3,000.
Which way are they off?

They're off horizontally about an 1/8" either way...
3000 RPM? That's highway cruise!

I had my PS pulley off by about 1/8" (not fully seated) and it chewed off one of the ribs on the 5-rib belt, now running on 4 ribs.

Probably a safe bet.. can't be any more off than than about 3/4 of the width of one groove.
Try looking at the mounting area. One of them you should be able to place grade 5 washers inbetween the bolts and unit. This is what I did to get my Saginaw pump to line up with my 5.0L. (Mustang 5.0L with a 84 Ford Saginaw Van 5.0L pump, they were 1/4" off)
Is it all Mustang stuff or did you piece together parts?

Thats what I did with my P/S pump as well and it's pretty much tits on. The A/C pump will be more difficult as it is a bit too far back. But I'm working on it and I should be able to get it really close.
ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO INSTALL THE BELT TENSIONER?????

My experiance on GM 4.3 with serp. belt. Bolt on P/S broke allowing the bottom to swing out about 3/16 th. Would throw the belt off. Tears the shiat out of everything.
The belt tensioner should have a center attachment with a way of keying it in position. Mine had a boss that fit in a hole. It also has a arrow that shows the least amount of tension on the belt. If you have a pieced together unit you could string a line around the pulleys and and deduct 1/2" to 3/4" to get a belt length.
