I got a dana 44 full size that is 69.5" wms to wms and i whant to compare it with my dana 30 wide axle that is 56" wms to wms. Wich is the best way and place to take the measurement so i could cut down the 44 into 56" wms to wms.
after 3 years with running 36" swamper, i finally strip the ring and gear so i have to upgrade now because summer is starting and the fun just begun.

Ya but here in Quebec, Canada they don't tolerate full width, it's illegal and i would have to custom made flare that would have to be 8" wide to cover the wheels. So it will be less trouble to narrow it.
I need to know how to get measurement to narrow the big thing.

You calling that 44 a big thing:rolleyes: It is a wide thing but I wouldn't call it big:p
Just use a tape measure and figure out how wide you want it. It will help to line it up under the rig and measure. You probably won't cut both sides evenly and you should consult some axle charts so perhaps you can cut it to use the stock shafts out of another vehicle. It takes a lot of work, but if you can get junkyard spares instead of customs it'll be good for you in the long run:beer:

Measure between the spring perches on the 44. I'll say it 31.5". Your CJ is 27.5" (4" narrower), so you need to cut the long side 4" more than the short side.
69.5" - 56" = 13.5"
8.75" + 4.75" = 13.5"

thanx CJ Jeeper,
That close to what i was getting, i will go with that, so you say cut 8.75 on the long side and 4.75 on the short side, rigth.

Check the width between perches. If I guessed right on that, the rest should be good.
