Has anyone had any experiance with the "Semi" reusable fittings that Scummit sells? Any issues with leaks? I don't care about the reusability (is that a word?) but I would really like to install one line and then route it and then install the other line so that it is the correct length.
Can anyone recommend any other place that has D.I.Y. fittings/hose? other than Earl's...didn't win the lotto this year..can't afford Earl's.

Scout Dude,
You talkin about the push on fittings or the Aeroquip style that like braided lines use? I am using the push on fittings on my return lines and the re-useable "Aeroquip" style on the pressure side. I did this so I can just carry spare bulk hose in case of a trailside repair. No problems to date. 1 1/2 years with full hydro steering. :D

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com
this is where i buy all of my Aeroquip parts from. the best part is they are local to me!!!
here is a good source of info. basically its the Aeroquip catalog posted on the web:
http://www.martelbros.com/cgi-bin/store/ws400CS.cgi?store=AQP&cart_id=&category=aeroquip/aeroquip.htm
so, i go to the Martel site, get the P/N's, call up Racer Parts, and buy the parts there. i do plan on having Martel make me up some -3 brake lines soon though. Racer Parts only sells parts and won't make up lines.
i have made up some Teflon high pressure lines. its so simple its almost scary! if you order from Racer Parts, ask them to throw and Aeroquip catalog and one of their own in the package. the assembly instructions are in the Aeroquip catalog.

I used the regular fittings (non brake style hose) and they blew off three times. Almost hit trees (crashed) all three times. They won't blow under normal driving only when you need to make a quick turn! Then the hose blows and you can barely move the wheel to save your life! Make sure they are rated to 1000psi+++!

Any hydro shop should have the kind that has a compresion(sp?) fiting on one side and the other that goes to hose will have a theaded end that goes over the hose then one that goes into the hose. This kind doesn't need to crimped. You can get them in all sizes that the hoses come in. And they will not blow off. I think the 3/8 are rated for 3500 psi.

Speedway Motors (http://www.speedwaymotors.com) has the hose as well as fittings to go into your steering box. Goodman also has them, but I can't find a link to them. I know they used to advertise in Street Rodder, don't know if they still do.
why not just have real hydraulic lines made up?
