I need to ditch the wirefeed and I live in an apt so there is NO way to install a 220. Im taking a TIG class in late January held by EAA/ Homebuild aircraft and from what Ive heard, its a great class.
Are 110v tigs better suited to weld 1/4" than 110 migs?
Believe me, If I could buy a 220 I would but it's not an option, I need to get a 110 Mig or Tig that can do 1/4"
I was looking at the Lincoln 3200HD and it could do 1/4" with 2 passes but Im a little leary of that.
A friend of mine helped me with my full cage and he brought over a Thermal Dynamics Dragster 85 TIG. Its really small and at first, I was thinking theres no way its going to weld 1.5 DOM .120 but it welded it so smooth and clean. I was thinking about it but its too small for 1/4"

All this rambling boils down to: will a 110v TIG weld 1/4" sucessfully?

hmmm, I don't have much experience with tig, just picked up a 300 AMP miller though, was told you want something over 225 amps TIG to do 1/4". Not something a 110V machine will do if you ask me. Unless maybe you do a bit of preheating.

You are gonna need a 220 machine to tig anything over 1/8.
My 220v econotig wont tig 1/4
