I found this monstrosity at the boneyard sat am and bought it without thinking how I was going to move the thing. Luckily for me, and not so luckily for UrbanWheeler he stopped by to pick up his eaton. Over lunch I somehow convinced him that it would be fun to go pick it up. It overwhelmed the springs on my little utility trailer but we got it back and today I split off the trans and transfer case to make it a bit more managable.

Now I don't know what the fawk to do with it. If anyone has a hard on for a dirty diesel send me a pm as Id like to get it in someone elses yard asap

Did just enough xmas shopping to remind me why I hate this time of year. Pulled the front bumper off the wife's car to fix the fog lights I installed last weekend. Apparently, paint doesn't make a good ground. Considering what I do for a living, that made me feel like a complete moron.

I got my 14 bolt, and Dana 60 completely disassembled for cleaning. The 14 bolt is spotless and just needs some paint to make it look new again. Well, paint, disc brakes, a locker, different gears, a beefier cover, and... well, you get the idea. The 60 is going to take a little more labor to get the 23 inches of grease/mud/rust cleaned off of it. Broke a stud on one of the 60 knuckles, I'll probably take it to a machine shop and let them deal with it... I've got real bad luck when it comes to removing broken things and I really don't want to screw it up and have to buy a replacement.

Hopefully after the holidays are over the wife will let me start ordering the parts I need to start putting everything back together.

Finished my RTI ramp and got it on the trailer so I can haul it in for paint this week (I hope).

That meant there was a hole open in the shop.

Did some cleaning (Not enough).. then, after trying to start the C30 and it giving me the finger, I hooked up the tow-bar..

Fortunately, there are 3 wrecking yards within a mile of me.. went to my favorite one and proclaimed I was there to make a donation, so they fork-lifted the 8x12 flatbed off and only broke the rear window in the process.

Then a fun filled slow drive home.

http://tigger.tmcom.com/~tsm1/PlainGallery/PartsTrucks1979ChevyDuallyFlatbed4x4/12_16_06_1506.sized.jpg

A 100" WB SII with a rear locker and some worn out 36s on 15" rims and shot shocks doesn't make a great tow rig for a 160+" WB 1Ton.. the upward sloping tow-bar didn't help, but it at least followed nicely.

Oh, Tigger's passenger door no longer latches.. thanks to the hit to the rocker during the Top Truck competition in Bozeman. Rocker isn't really attached to the floor any more, either.

I had to remove the dumbo mirrors before the truck would fit into the shop, but it's in there now.

Long sucker.

I'm going to push it half out the shop again, jack-stand the frame rails, and cut it in half. Then I'll have room to pull the engine out of the front.

Plan is to pull the front clip, pull the dash, pull the hydroboost & tilt column, then roll the cab back and winch it onto the trailer before I pull the engine/trans.

Then cut up what's left of the frame into chunks I can lift.

Spent the week in Knoxville...then Atlanta...missed our windstorm...

Came home luckily just in time before they closed the airport again...at 5:00pm on Friday.

Didn't have power or anything (all electric apartment) until yesterday afternoon.

You could see your breath in my apartment.

Moved the Scout pig of a rear bumper so I could put the Jeep Rubi back in the garage since the 'tang now sets in the house garage.

HOS...Stud.....K-town can be fun...to bad for you UT's girls are probably home for Christmas...

Sat:

Pulled the axels and suspension for my 68 out and to the front of the house, placed a D60 rear under my 78 and a stock 44 under the front to roll around on. This summer that rig is going to get some serious attention, but for now it sits on borrowed axels and no engine/tranny/T-case..since they are now in my 68!

Sun:

Mated the T19 and the 345, going to try and fab the crossmember tonight then I get to start suspension. Most of the day I just really lacked motivation or I'd already have the rear sprung over.

Got some Krawlers and more trick tabs (BTF) for the project. Delivered a scout to the transport place, picked up family pictures (man I'm fat) and drove to Denver to pick up Matthew's Christmas present.

Hey, I have one of those too!!

Did nothing IH related this weekend -- I guess I did start my pickup and move it about 30 feet. And I did give away some more Scout parts.

Shopped a lot and spent too much money! :mad3:

And cleaned the house like crazy - just so a bunch of drunk, angry school teachers can trash the place with my wife today :shaking:

Sounds like an awsome party US:laughing:

Friday left the house at 9am for our reserved house in Sun River. After running a few errands(while dragging the scout behind) we find out the pass is closed. We had to drive an extra hour out of our way, run chains on the truck and trailer for 3 hours, and almost get killed by a jack knifing semi. It was fun. We ended up getting hammered and hot tubbing most of the weekend. Mandy ended up with 3rd degree rug burns on her back. :D

The weekend went fast, visiting out of town relatives, got caught up on old times. Talked the wife into letting me check out the local JY, so I grab this NP205 for the hell of it.

Finially got back to working on by binder. Rolled her into the garage for the first time in a good many months. Started riping out wires, oba, bumpers, doors, etc out and off. Getting it ready for some rust repair and getting Rhino re-sprayed in the tub. Sux that the bitches that spray'd it in the first place f'd it up. :mad3:

Saturday I got home around midnight, and got a call from a girl who was supposed to call earlier. She was at a bar, so I met her out ther. Left there at 3 am, went to IHOP, and left there at 5 am. Hit the rack around 5:30.

Sunday I fucked off and looked at some spring threads.

think its tall enough?

tsm1mt

think its tall enough?

I dunno.. think you can max it? :D

I knew I wanted it to be "big" and not have to build a second one bigger because someone maxed it out.

I started with "20' length of steel, so where can I bend it to make a 30-deg slope.."

and it worked out to ~12' OAL and 7.5' tall.

It wasn't until I first lifted the driving section of the ramp up to start welding it at an angle to the base that I realized just how freakin' tall 7.5' was.

Then I did the math and figured out there won't be many rigs that are wide enough to even consider maxing a 7.5' tall ramp, and those that do will be scrubbing a sidewall on the ground and the inner sidewall on the ramp.

But by then it was too late.

Good news is, I doubt I'll have to remove the tires or A-arms when ramping rigs on it.

No one's gone more than 8' up the ramp yet (it's ~15' along the driving ramp), so the tires/A-arms can stay in place (tilted/canted up/in, of course) when in use - but it does mean it's about twice as big as it should've been. ;)
