do you need alot of cutting oil to cut stainless steel.
if so then I'm going to use aluminum and not SS to keep the oil mess down.
I need to cut about 50 1/4" thick X 1.5" round pcs.

no you don't need any more oil than you would normally use. However you need to have the correct cutter. What are you using to cut the material? Are you using the correct speeds and feeds? there is a lot more info needed before an answer can be given. Also if you can use aluminum instead of stainless why use stainless in the first place? Aluminum is a lot easier to cut and if you have access to aluminum that will work I'd use it just for ease of cutting

what type of stainless it is? If its of the 303 varity then slow and no cutting fluid is need. But if you are cutting 316, carbide, slower and lots of fluid.

well I ordered 12ft. 1.5" aluminum rod for some other jobs and MSC screwed up and sent me 1.5" SS so I did not tell them and I reordered 1.5" aluminum rod again.
I would use a carbide cutting tool and slow the lathe all the way down.
The only resson I thought of using SS was because I already have it. plus its going on the outside of my truck like this. http://www.camburg.com/images/fabricationParts/Fenderwasherkit.jpg
