: My Jeep is making noises :o
YJ4LIFE 05-10-2002, 03:05 PM :emb4: At first I thought it was a worn out alternator or idler pully. Then I noticed it only make noise when I had my clutch pedal down. If I put it in neutal and let the clutch alone, it wouldn't make noise. So I think it has something to do with my clutch now. What is it, how difficult is it to fix?
thanks
JohnC 05-10-2002, 03:24 PM Most likely your throw-out bearing in your clutch. Fixing it would require pulling the transmission and bellhousing off.
Weezer 05-10-2002, 03:55 PM I have to agree that you got a bad throw out bearing
Keith Strong 05-10-2002, 03:58 PM Throw Out bearing. Thats a big job...you better take it to the dealership for that :flipoff2:
ItsaCJ6 05-10-2002, 08:24 PM Sure its not the muffler bearing? I hear those can realy allow for alot of squeling.
YJ4LIFE 05-10-2002, 08:36 PM How important is that? Do I need to fix it asap? I a full plate till finals are done :emb4: :(
Highlander 05-10-2002, 08:36 PM You're all wrong , he's low on blinker fluid!
payton 05-10-2002, 09:02 PM damn it ur all wrong its not the muffler berrings or the turn lamp fluid ...
one of the tires has a flat spot on it.. he needs to rotate.. them and make sure the flast spot isnt on the bottom....
:flipoff2:

hybrid 05-10-2002, 11:24 PM yeup- Throw out bearing. Might as well do the clutch while your at it. It's not a big deal. I've done a few and the only issue I ever had was one had a wrong size berring that gets pressed into the crank. If the slave is leaking ( comon on a lot of 90's YJ's) get a aftermarket one and be done w/it for another ~70K miles.

Actaully I believe it's the new Celicas that actually have muffler bearings. I wonder if a parts store would take you seriously if you asked for one :D
kidwired 05-14-2002, 01:10 PM throw out bearing, dont sweat it. it could go for yrs like that. or it could give out anytime. Plan on doing clutch at the same time.

if the slave needs replacing convert to an external

Kid is right....keep it in mind but you will be ok for a while.
speed_buggy 05-22-2002, 12:39 AM it could also be the pilot bearing.
I just bought a "LUK" clutch kit from pep boys for $189 For My 1989.5 YJ 4.2L.
it included a New clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing / slave cylinder, pilot bearing and ailment tool.

The pilot bushing gets pressed into the crank, and usually I check those before I press them in. And slavery is still illegal!:D\
EDIT: I just remembered there are pilot bearings. I haven't owned anything worthy of a pilot BEARING. Just a '70 Roadrunner with a mild 440.
ukjeeper 05-22-2002, 09:02 PM YJ4Life, you're in Sherman Oaks, right? I would go over to Mike Duncan in Burbank, the "fourxDoctor" (http://www.fourxdoctor.com).
He's the best in the valley IMHO and won't rip you off. Try not to put off getting it fixed/looked at, mine went out after driving 100+ up to Stoddard from Long Beach. Had to drive all the way back with no clutch, it sucks....
Victor72 05-23-2002, 03:56 PM Sounds like the throw out bearing OR the pilot bearing may also make that noise.
hope it helps.
