i have tried the search button and have been lurking for a bit now but i have a question that needs answering - i know that there are a loty of variables that go into cage design but all things being equal is there a distinct strength advantage of a front halo over the standard front hoop design?
:) thanks:)

If you can weld--no difference! Seriously the more one piece you can make it the stronger. Your
weakest areas will allows be at junctions (welded). Realistically there is little difference provided the welds are done properly. The top portion will be stronger if done as a halo --the bottom will be a tad stronger if done as a front hoop (for low hits and rollovers) so that is probably the better option most of the time. Also if you race sometimes one style is required over the other.

can i ask another question? i guess i already did. but anyway if i tie the whole thing to the frame and run a dash bar plus a pillar to b pillar bars plus tie in the seats to the cage, would that make it strong enough in compaision to the same thing with a front hoop?
if i don't amke sense just slap me. i've been up writing papers for finals for about a week now and need a distraction.
thanks

The front will tie into the front cab mounts and the rear should sit on top of the rear mounts. I'd recommend 1 3/4 inch tubing (if you want high speed/impact protection or larger unless you are a great welder you can save some weight with 1 1/2 inch cromolly. The best thing you can do to make the welds at the junctions stronger is to triangulate or use gussets to spread the load.
