If I have a T-18 from a CJ7 that used to live behind a six be a straight bolt into a CJ7 with an AMC 304 that currently has a T150? I assume the bell housing for the T150 will match the T18. Will I need the bellhousing that came with the T18?
I have no idea where the T-18 orgionally came from. Jeep? Ford? Is it fair to assume if it has the 6.32 first it came from a Ford?
Thnks.......

Yes and Yes. All AMC motors from 72 on have the same bell housing bolt pattern. Also, you have the best of all worlds with your 1977 bell housing. Not only will bolt up to the AMC I6 or the AMC V8, it’s drilled for both the Ford “butterfly” and the Jeep CJ T18 transmissions. Check this out.

It’s loaded with info. Also follow the links for identification of what you have.

The T150 and T-18 bellhousings are one in the same. As Saddle Tramp mentioned they are drilled for both patterns.
It is not safe to assume that the T18 came from a Ford. CJ's from 77-79 had the 6.32 as did fullsize Jeeps. There are too many "what ifs" from previous owners to assume anything unless you know it was the original tranny in the CJ7.

Aallision28-
Have you identified your T18 yet?
My jeep is a 1978 CJ5, with a 1978 AMC 401, a 1977 CJ T18, and a 1980 Scout Dana 300. (Sounds like a Heinz 57 mutt to me but there are NO adaptors, just stock parts.)

IMO 6.32 first T-18, Scout 300 is the best stock trany trans combo available,
4-1 the tcase and you get 89-1 crawl for the trail, 3.54 axel gears for the Hwy.
Hard to beat for a trail CJ5, and the trip to the trail.

Actually I am running 4.56s in the difs. That leaves me wanting to shift up one more time after putting it in 4th gear on the street. (Of course, no gear to shift to.) I have been thinking about putting a 4:1 Tera low in the xcase and bumping up the axels a little to a taller gear to get back some of the rpm’s on the road and still have a decent crawl ratio. All it takes is money!

Like I said before, this combo gives the widest range with least cost, if done in the right order. My next step is 44 front, chromo shafts, detroit and a little less lift, currently 4" rancho spring under. Then a sbchev. Point of the whole thing is to get the best trail jeep possible. I know "best" is different for everyone.
Anyhow Merry Christmas,
