With OME 764s in the 90 I have some driveline vibration - wears out UJs on the front propshaft every couple of months.
I'm mulling over making or buying a double cardon driveshaft to try and solve this problem. I've looked at sourcing a LR part but they are ridiculously expensive. My 90 is a LT85/LT230 combo.
Who is making them for sale, does anyone know of a source in Australia for them?
Alternatively, does anyone have the specs / measurements for one if I decide to get made up locally?
Thanks

What you need to do is source a front driveline from a Discovery Series II.
I'm not sure where the LT-85 and t-case combination places the front output flange, but if it's located even remotely close to where an R-380 and/or LT-77 is, then it'll be a damn near bolt in. With your tranny, you might need to shorten or lengthen it.
Don't bother making or ordering one. The DiscoII part is actually pretty nice.

Except that you can't grease it. A friend's 4.6 blew up the front driveshaft recently, he got lucky it just beat up the frame and crossmember. I've heard of others hitting the tranny and ruining the case.

I have suspension lifted my Rangie 4"
and the front Uni's dont last long either!
The Landrover series 3 V8 and Diesel ran a CV style front tailshaft does anyone know if one of those would fit a Rangie?
I would hate to think what a Landrover Dealer would want for a series 11 Disco front tailshaft here in OZ!!

go and have a look at: http://www.d-90.com/tech/cv1.html
this is how i built my rear shaft up and it worked well, although i did have to go and get it professionally balanced (it turned out i hadn't welded the double yoke on fully true to the end of the shaft) but it sorted ALL my driveline vibs out.

Hi Jamie
A friendly tech looked up the prices for me here (these are New Zealand dollars - or should I say Pesos)
FRC 7697 Retail $4487.27
FRC 9762 '' $ 2898.63
FRC 2175 '' $ 2101.46 all plus Tax
Can you believe those Landrover prices? :nuke: :mad3: They must be made of unobtainium...
Where did you get your one from - and do they have another one?
I'm going to try and track down one off a wrecked Series II Disco, but building one from scratch or importing a rovertym one looks like a good option right now...

i know what you mean about the prices, over here they're about £700 UKP from LR. it's because most of them are/were fitted to the military 110 SAS vehicles (with salisbury front axles) , and as it's military stuff, they whack up the price! (captive customers)
the shaft i used came from Old sodbury, a 6 monthly LR autojumble we have here. it was a brand new shaft (luckily), but you occasionally see them there.
my front one is from equippe4x4.com and is a really nice piece of engineering. came with a new drive flange too (off of a disco series2) as the bolt pattern is different to a 'stock' shaft.
ths disco shaft is: TVB 000100 and the drive flange, shic is a direct replacement on the LT230 t/box, is: STC 4379. although not greasable, they're considerably cheaper than the 110 double CV shafts.

I was lucky enough to find a Series 2 disco Front shaft for $295 au
From a Wrecker who has possibly never looked up the price of a new one from a Landy Dealer.
