im tired of changing the rotoflex on the rear driveshaft of my 96 discovery and i know there are other solutions out there. I have seen a driveshaft replacement for about 400$ but i was seeing if anyone knew an alternate solution, maybe a range rover shaft fitting or different year or something?

I dont know why the Rotoflex gets such a bad rap. Only takes 10 minutes to change one. I know a couple guys running Rotos with 3" or 4" lifts. Still lasts 15-20K miles.
You can certainly get the flange and a non-roto driveshaft for LESS than $400 if you really want to change it....

If you're running a real gearbox, you'd be wise to keep the rotoflex...

I've changed them without a jack, in the dark, in the Moab hotel parking lot - not a biggie :)

the rotoflex itself is not that bad, it's the bushing in the driveshaft that is the problem when it has to be changed...

You mean you're supposed to change that part too :)

Glad I ditched it and went u-joints.

ed...man, those new "smileys" do stink ...

Get on Dweb and PM Will Tillery. I went with a RRC drive shaft and flange on my 2000 d2. You will need a spacer that is available thru Atlantic British I believe. I made one so I doesn't know. Price was much less then $400.

I broke my rotoflex (3 months old) at one event, broke both engine mounts also (3 months old). Did the conversion over to a RR DS (ujoint) and heavy duty engine mounts. Haven't had any problems since.

I had a DS from a 91 RR and purchased the flange from AB ($80).

thanks guys

nunoeumiranda did you use the driveshaft out of a 98 discovery also?

and Johnny5 the DS out of the 91 RR fit with not mods?

and does anyone have a list of DS applications that fit to ease my chances of finding one?

1: Any driveshaft from a SWB RRC or Disco will fit fine.

2: The need for the spacer is dependent upon which flange you get. If you buy the kit, you'll get everything you need for the conversion. Last time I bought one, the lowest cost was from the stealership.

3: Do it and don't look back, nor question the wisdom of having done it.

What he said. ^

Though I've been told they bust apart faster on DIs than DIIs...?

They hold up better on DIIs because of the rear links.

I have a drive shaft and the flange if you're interested. I might even have the spacer kicking around in one of my olf 10 spline diffs/door stops. I'll PM you with details.
