i have heard this is a common problem when it is either low on fluid or when it wears out a selector fork. is this true? if so can you change the selector fork in vehicle or must the transfer case be removed?

before you think the internals are messed up check your motor and t case mounts. when my motor mounts were toast, it caused my tcase to pop outta gear . just a thought

i will also be checking the fluid level. how do i tell if that shift fork is bent other than taking it apart?

the fork doesnt "bend:, its mad of aluminium and has a nylon pad at the end. the gears are steel of course and wear the nylon down and then start wearing down the fork itself. you have to pull the t-case because you have to take it apart to change the fork, not really that hard though.

thanks for all the input guys. i checked the fluid and adjusted the linkage a little. it seems to be holding up good and not popping out now. i went and gave it a good coat of mud tonight. all seems well. but, the motor mounts and definatly the transfercase mounts need changed. they all flex quite a bit. but as for now all seems to be good in the world again. thank you guys so much once again.
