Just thought i would start a thread to see if anyone has installed the short shaft adaptor to a T18 from novak adaptors. I just recieved the adaptor and no instructions. Looks pretty straight forward but no sence in starting something with out getting all the info. Basically i am using a t18 from a FSJ and installing it to a CJ5 with the stock 232. I have purchased a T176 bell housing to mount to this engine. Dana 20 already mounted. One other question is the Clutch disk i am to use. Since i dont know the spline count from the exiting clutch disk what one should i purchase. I heard a rumer i would need one from a ford with a 10 1/2" dia.
Does the whole thing need to be rebuilt to install that kit?
Thanks for all the help.

I've been waiting for weeks to get mine (T18 to dana 300 kit) From what I've been told is you need all the jeep parts for the clutch but the disc has to be ford for a ford t18. If you have a jeep t18 it should all be jeep clutch parts I would think. Call Novak they will answer your questions. I am rebuilding mine while I've got everything apart. It's only an extra $175, and unless you know your tranny is perfect. Why take the chance.

the t18 is a fairlly easy tranny to work on, from what i understand, find a diagram and basically tear it down and re-install the short shaft. make sure you are clean and keep things organized, youll need some good lock ring pliers and a tub of vaseline to hold the loose bearings together. to get that front shaft out, its easier to take everything out and re-build it at the same time. I installed an AA/D300 myself, really straight forward. take your time with it and learn whats going on inside. good luck.

Thanks Fish, i was able to easily take all apart accroding to the instructions provided by novak except i got to the part where i need to pull the main shaft out the top in order to remove the front input shaft. At this point i found the shift lever for the reverse that is located on the driver side towards the back is keeping me from removing. I have found no snap rings or figured a way to remove. I will hopefully be able to post a picture tomorrow when i get to my camera. Anyone ever taken that lever off? Other than that it has been very simple to do and i imaging all will go together very smooth.

I just attached the photos of the shift arm i can not remove located in the bottom right corner of these photos

I just wanted to up date this post with some information that might help someone that will do this. If your T 18 has a shift fork on the driver side and it is attached to the case there is a small pin that is run through the actuall pivot arm and caseing. drive this pin towards the rear of the tranny. once that is off you can continue to remove the shift fork arm and then the main gear set and so on. IM me if you have any questions i have some pictures that could help.
