I am pulling down the tranny next week, to replace the clutch and rear main seal, and check for leaks on the tranny and transfer case. since I will be taking the driveshafts off, I might as well replace those stock ujoints. Any suggestions? I want to go beefier, (I am running 35x12.5 Good Year MTR's with 4" BTB springs and 2 1/2 " greasble shackles so about 5-6 inches of lift) but I don't want to pay the 200.00 a piece for the CTM's:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
I will be doing both the front and rear driveshafts.
I am still waiting on the MAF RV grind cam, the damn thing is on backorder...I wish they would have told me this before I started pulling out the old one, cause now I am w/o my 60 for another week or so. Oh well I will find more stuff to work on during the wait.

In as many of miles as I have wheeled my Landcruiser and wheeled with other Landcruisers, I have never seen a properly greased TLC U-Joint break.

Worry about something else!

Good caveat, Nolen. In 15 years of wheeling Land Cruisers in five countries, I've broken u-joints *twice*, and both times they were dry. Lesson learned, now I check them on a regular basis, make sure they're well greased.

The 60 series u-joints are pretty massive, I would not worry about them. While you've got everything apart, check them out. If they need replacing, go to Toyota for the new ones, don't even waste your time with the aftermarket junk.

Ok thanks for the info. The only reason I asked is that I previously owned a jeep(I know, the j word!) well any way that thing went through ujoints rapidly no matter how well they were lubed. I have not dealt with the Landcruiser driveline before so I just thought I'd ask.

Uh, saw one break at CM02 on the Friday on a 40.
