: Checking out Reno/sparks area
eyedahoe 12-22-2006, 02:27 AM So heres the deal. I moved down to Nor-cal from Idaho to go to school in Sac and I'm graduating tomorrow. I love the area around Placerville but I hate all the godamn stupid people and the cost of living around here. Me and some friends have been looking at the Reno area. Whatcha gotta say bouts it
Dirty Harry 12-22-2006, 09:07 AM I lived there for a few years and loved it. I am originally from Sacramento but Sac is just too big and congested for me now. I like Placerville, but unfortunately I have to work for a living and Reno has a lot more opportunties in that regard. The cost of living is less than Sac, houses are expensive but they are still less than California, plus you don't have any income tax. There are a lot of great trails and fab shops in the area whether you are interested in rockcrawling or desert racing. There are good restaurants in town but not much culture. I suppose that it is like Sacramento in that regard. I don't gamble so the casinos aren't a big attraction for me, however in the summer there is something going on almost every weekend between Hot August Nights, the air races, rib cookoff, hot air baloon races, etc.
Reno Rich 12-22-2006, 04:24 PM Born and raised here, and I love it!
Fishing, skiing, camping, wheeling, boating, ww kayaking, biking, parties, mountains, etc :flipoff2:
binderbasher 12-23-2006, 12:53 PM I am not living in reno, but the surrounding area is nice too.
NoBrainR 12-23-2006, 04:14 PM Reno's a great place. Biggest problem is traffic. It's growing faster than the street's can keep up with.
eyedahoe 12-25-2006, 08:27 PM whats the best place to look for rentals/jobs around there? any good papers or anything like that...craigslist?

traffic in reno? HA! that's not traffic that's a joke! tripple it's size and keep the road system the same and you'll come close to real traffic :grinpimp:
NVScouter 12-26-2006, 12:15 PM Born and raised in Virginia City...then the Kalifornians ran me out to Kalifornia.
NV is getting horrible these days. Its basicly becoming little SoCal but colder.
The no state tax is a scam too BTW. When I moved to the Cali side I pay less property tax, vehicle registration and so forth then in NV so it all evened out. It just sucks balls to buy a gun here.
If you want to pay too much for a house, get paid so-so, live in a housing association, get run over by latte drinking soccer moms and get frustrated driving move there. Still better than Sactown though, but not by much.

well thats what happens when the city tries to sieze land illegally, begins to build a bypass and runs out of $ when the state wont fund the rest! :flipoff2:
But CC traffic is insane, even the Hotsprings way through is FUBAR now.

Ain't that the truth . . . I can just about drive from my place at the bottom of Lakeview Hill to Reno/Sparks faster than I can drive to South Carson. :shaking:
renolaw 12-28-2006, 12:56 AM Lakeview? thats where i grew up--on meadow wood road above the water masters place. We used to ridie up ash canyon, up to marlett and hobart lakes, etc. We used to jeep (in the old GPW) from lakeview summit to duck hill, along the inverted flume trail above the nice hidden ranch back there to 5 mile resivour. is this trail still open/passable? i see it every time we cruise thru washoe walley and wonder...
or we turn sooner and take Jumbo or Ophir over to VC and miss the whole mt. mcclellan network.

i was refering more to the fact i came from the Seattle area, 5 lanes into 2 to get through downtown etc... what a great idea, let's build the convention center OVER I5 so it can never be expanded when teh city tripples in size!
NVScouter 12-29-2006, 08:58 AM Only been to Olympia area with family.
Did you run away from the traffic, people or rust?

Did the same city planner design the "new and improved" Reno/Sparks freeway expansion? I still cant see what they did in three years except adjust a few on/off ramps, add a truck lane for 2 miles out of town and sound walls. Its still just a bad as ever, not to mention the traffic barrels that tend to float out in traffic.
