I thought i would be cool and try to run some 35-spline axle shafts in my 30-spline rear 60. I took the FF axle to the local honky tonk machine shop to get the spindles bored to 1.59 (a measurement the dynatrac guys recomended) and the retards cut a 1.54 hole that is offset in the bore  . Still determined to run 35-spline shafts I am thinking about 14 bolt hubs and spindles. I searched and found people talkin about it but no actual tries. I'm about to give up and call dynatrac and tell em to build a 60 for me. It's for my jeep w/ 39's and i don't want a 14 bolt anchor. Anyone actually do this hybrid deal? Any advise before I spend even more money on parts?

you can run 14 bolt outers on a 60. requires that you outer sleeve the housing though...you can either turn down the end of the the 60 housing, I think...or turn out the 14 bolt ends so they slide over the 60 then weld....may be both may be in jeed of a good sleeve....etheir way it's a lot of work...why not just take the 14 bolt you got the outers off and shave it before you put it in?

YupYup! Im running 14 bolt outers on my 60 :D for the same reason, bigger shafts. I didnt want to bore the spindles and create another "weak link".

Or you can use 61 spindles. They will neck down by the spindle to the same size as the 60. Or just run the 61, with thick cut gears.

...or you could buy a dana 70 rear with 35 spline axle shafts, save some weight over the 14 bolt, and have more ground clearence than the 14 bolt without shaving...or you could shave for even more...just a thought.:D

Just thinking here, if you cut and shave a 14 bolt, D70, and 10.25. Won't they all have the same amount of clearance? They all run a 10.25" ring gear right? So if you shave a 60/61 you will get a little more clearance right? I personaly would run a 10.25 or D70. Since that is what I have laying here.

i'm in the midst of building d60 ff 35 spline hybrids as we speak in fact i van hook you up with a great guy who can make you the jigs to do it all...i wanted a hp in the rear so i just went with a tera 60 housing which cost me dirt cheap if you want one i can get you noproblem ..pick up 14b outers also i can hook you up with a guy who has them..they are real easy to find also..IMHO
that is the best and cheapest way to go not to mention strong as fawk...

Technicaly, no, the 14 bolt has 10.5 the 70 has 10.54. I'm pretty sure.

Tj7- how cheap is cheap??

from your post it sounds like there still is .050 worth of material left to machine off? if so just take them to a GOOD shop and have them center them right and take it out to size,,, if that well not work why not just cut some outers off a nother 60 and weld them one your tubs? P.S. well there off the tubs have them machined out then,,,,

im gonna go hunt the junk yard tmorrow see what exactly i can dig up. I think I might have found a dana 80, at least that's what the number looks like. I bet that hub and spindle would hold some 35's.

D.D. Machine - i was lookin at my spindle and wonderin where exactly it is welded or pressed onto my axle tube. It all seems to be rusted together just enough not to be able to tell. Any help?
As far as the old spindles go, I think the hole is too far offset for safe use.

just get another 60... why go to all the trouble of boring spindles and screwing around... Find a 60 that has the correct outer spindles to begin with... or just run a D70.

Yeah, and the 10.25 measures closer to 10.50, too. Why the fawk Ford did that, I dunno... but the ring gear is allegedly the same dia as a 10.50 Ford.
