I'm replacing my exploded hub, shoud I use some blue loc-tite, or just the flat washers plus lock washers as supplied by Warn?

TIA

I had to use locktite to keep the bolts from backing out.

I use red loctite, new grade 8 bolts and new grade 8 lock washers every time I'm in there.

I tried Gr5 for a while because they're easier to drill out - but of course, they break easier, too.

WHEN the Red loctite'd Gr8 bolts break, I now pull the wheel hub and stick it in the drill press to drill out the broken bolts.

Here is what I did this summer/fall when I put my new hub set on...

1. Removed the studs that were in the hub.

2. Got a good buzz on while getting new hubs ready.

3. Apply gratuitous amounts of RED 271 Loctite.

4. Assemble hubs with lockwashers as well.

5. To keep hub cap SHCS from backing out I use BLUE 242 Loctite.

Red locktight GOOD.

Studs better.

Internal hubs Best[est]

If you check/tighten them every-time you go out, and even during your lunch stop in the middle of the day if they are prone to coming loose you should have an issue with them (or atleast an issue stemming from loose hubs)

I agree 100% with this statement...Proven factual...

My next front axle will have Internal Hubs...they will be big...and they will be stuffed with flanges...

Yes, but you used Grade 5 bolts! Bad, Mark!

I ran Gr5 bolts for a while but they broke too often.

The Gr8s just need replaced every couple of times I retorque them or they break, too.

..and like Mark and Mark, my next set of hubs will be internal - and they say SPICER on 'em.

Just need to get 'em broached first.

Well just to make sure we don't cut short any "what's better" online debating, I used blue lock-tite instead of red and grade 8 instead of grade 5...:D
