But I welded up the one in my XJ.

The whole time thinking to myself that these things might not even be fit for a go cart:flipoff2:

I'm running 31x10.50 mud terrains so it should last a little while even with liberal doses of the right foot.

Oh and then their is the fact that I put a 4 to 1 in last night too.

cause I wanted to kill my d35 I welded it up and was running 33TSL's it lasted about 2 hours off road. In it's defense it did last about 200 miles on road while I was breaking in the cam but that was very light driving. the first time I got any force on one side and gave it a little gas (It was no wheres near flored more like 1/2 throttle) I got that familiar little plink sound and then watched my tire try to drive sideways as it worked out of the housing. 31's might last a little longer but not much. I put my money on 4 hours offroad.

But it was my excuse to start working on dual 60's and to buy a daily driver/mild rig YJ to drive while I am building the XJ

:D

This should be fun.

I'm going to be heading down to Hollister next weekend.

Maybe I'll take friday off and pick up an extra dana35 from the pick N pull.

I wonder if I can completely destroy two dana35's in a weekend:flipoff2:

I"m not sure I will be able to get the C clips on and off with the rear end welded up.

i not tring to defend the 35 but i know a guy who ran 36's with a welded rear and did not break all that often...he knew the axles limits and did not push it...you should do the same until you get the 44. again i am not a 35 lover and you cant polish a turd but take it easy and it will last for as long as you let it...:nuke: :nuke: :nuke: get a 60 if you want to gas it.

I second that. I've got a 44 that I've just been too lazy to gear and drop in my Jeep for when the 35 blows. However, it still hasn't, which surprises me since it is welded too. I've gone pedal down on it with my 4.0 and haven't broken anything yet. I'm not saying it is a good axle by any stretch of the imagination, but I just don't buy into this shit about it blowing up the second you hit the trail. Hey, it works for the time being and I carry spares, not a problem....yet

Mine must just be slow on the punch line, since it hasn't blown yet. :flipoff2:

Well I drove the bitch all over my backyard in 4 low today.
and she held fine

jumped the railroad crossing down the street and she held

climbed up the crappy little ramp I made with 4x4's and my retaining wall
worked the gas and clutch so a reartire would raise then slam back on the ground.
No snappy.

Next weekend I will see how it really works out in Hollister.
I have two D35's waiting at my friends house if I need to make a quick fix :D

I had a friend that welded his in his TJ. It held for about 8 months+ and the axles didn't break, but the carrier did...... And I think that was due to the welding the diff.

Monkeyboy
05-15-2002, 11:08 AM
I hope I lowered the chances of the diff breaking by only welding a little at a time.
I weld one pass on then flip the diff over and weld the opposite side then let it cool and do the other side.

I took my time and cleaned up real well after the welding was done.

We'll see after this weekend.

Hehe hehe, me thinky it's going to break.

Todd, what's the width on that thing? I have my old Scout 44 (58.5 WMS to WMS) on the side yard. We'll talk this weekend.

I'm runnin' my beast with a D35 and a detroit with 33" BFG's and so far so good. I do wheel with a spare set of shafts because between you, me and the fencepost, it will break, its only a matter of when! :D :D :D

HMMMM Scout dana44.

Might be a good excuse to go 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern.

then I can track down a high pinion front 44 and start working on it :D

I think I might just say fawkit and load up a complete extra dana35 and do the rubicon next weekend too.

I can see it now.
Me broken on the side of the trail and some one asks if I need any help...

Sure can you help me unload my spare from the back of my XJ.

welded D35, 35-14.5 boggers....hasn't broken yet. But that little 2.8 doesn't put out a whole lot of power. After two years though, the splines are starting twist slightly. Carry spares, they're cheap. ;)

Even without welding,my 35 is making some moaning noises. BUT that is after barrett trail and alot of other wheelin around. Horror stories are abundant about these things (35's) but it has lasted 3 years two of that on 33's.

The little axle survived the weekend.
Even behind my wifes heavy foot.

I gave that golf cart grade axle plenty of oportunities to break and it didn't.

No freakin crap D35's suck :D. This is after a TTC in G.R. Michigan and mine wasn't locked, I made it about 300 yds out of 3000 yds when it snapped, I just kept it to the floor because I knew it wouldn't be staying in. This convinced me to get off my ass and build my D60 rear, now I can't wait for my crap ass D30 to go so I can put a D60 or D44 in, I'm kind of hoping my D60 front doesn't sell quick so I can put that in instead of my D44

If money grew on trees it would be in :D but since it doesn't I'm stuck with waiting until I get the money to put it in :( And recently I decided to sell it since it's been sitting for a year collecting dust :( and I would like the money but hopefully I can pull some money out of my ass real soon so I don't have to sell it

If it's a Ford HP60 I say hang onto that sucker if you've already paid for it and don't need the sale money to eat. They can be hard to find when you really want one (especially the '79 with the longer drivers side tube vs. newer ones) It took me a lot of cash to get the '79 HP60 for my YJ. SO if you got it, and money to eat, keep it. Just my $.02
