: Weekend Report 23,24 Dec
mountainguyed67 12-25-2006, 04:11 PM Went up the Bald Mountain Trail Saturday. Was going really well until my rig slid into A creek bed.Had 2 other rigs with me that helped me get out, took several hours. My carnage list includes A broken winch cable, broken leaf spring, sheared off leaf spring center bolt, crunched fender and one tire off the bead. One of the others ruptured A brake line and fryed A strap helping me.All this happened on A new section the Forest Service wants us to use.Its side hilling on packed snow. Then I spent sunday fixing what I could.
Urban Wheeler 12-25-2006, 04:34 PM Went to a hockey game friday, had to put up with my dad cheering for the other team. He said he wanted a close game so everyone plays harder, and it would be a better game.
Saturday I sat around and fucked off on my new laptop, didn't feel like doing anything.
Sunday I pulled my stack of parts out of the shed and threw them on my trailer. In the evening I went to my aunt's house for some caroling. Family tradition.
Today I went to my cousin's for the gift exchange. We used to buy presents for eveyone, but then it got expensive when my older cousins got married and started having kids. Now all the adults bring a gift, we put them in a pile and draw numbers. Number one takes a gift and opens it. Number two takes a gift and either opens it, or trades it (unopened) for number one's gift. Number three can trade for either of the two, and so on. I brought a lava lamp, went home with a blanket from comcast. After all that I hauled my parts to storage, put up some shelves, and unloaded. Where does all this shit come from?? It piles up fast. BTW, I posted in the garge sale thread, page 4.
NVScouter 12-25-2006, 08:50 PM Rented cabins in Sierraville with my best friends and wives. Got trashed and had an amazing time. We had the whole place to ourselves, think we are going to do it next year too.
Got a new 10K winch from the wife too!
BinderMike 12-25-2006, 10:16 PM Friday: Went to a driveline shop and had the rear U-joints replaced by a really nice old guy who let me watch and participate. He also told me that my front driveline was ok for now, but the U-joints in my front axle should be my next project. I think its going to be a couple of months for that while I hunt down some x-long steel-braided brake hoses...
Saturday: Went and rescued my girlfriend from a field. No wheeling involved, she swerved to avoid a deer and went from ditch to ditch finally over the embankment and over/through a fence...owned by a really crotchety old man. Got the truck out of a feild (nicest, flattest damned feild I ever saw) after finding out that the damage was only superficial (bumper bent and turnsignal busted). Did I mention that she wasn't wearing her seatbelt? She got an earful from me, and I figure the "all-over-body-aches" may teach her a lesson I cant. Went to X-mas with the girlfriend's family.
Sunday: Beginnings of getting sick, taking care of the girlfreind, opened eachother's gifts. She was quite happy with her gifts :D .
Christmas Day: Sick as a dog, had to skip extended family's X-mas, barely dragged myself to Mom's after catnapping all day while struggling to stem the tide of snot. (you wanted to hear that, you know you did)
Bill usn-1 12-26-2006, 03:25 PM Took advantage of being back in the US for a few days...hit up a local pick and pull.
Got some distributor parts for future projects and even came up with an ECM from a 90 sunbird turbo coupe. Had to go back for the 2 bar map though. Forgot it the first time. Got to love them PNP's..$20 for any ECM!!!
Still debating on if I want to do a turbo or a supercharger project...
Leaning towards supercharger right now.
I need some new FI projects to keep me learning and playing since the TBI thing is about all documented now!!

Damn near identical to my last couple days, though I managed to not miss any functions except for one my most favorite mtn bike rides in the Demo Forrest near Santa Cruz (broke my ankle & leg there a few years back :mad3: :D ). Getting sick really blows... :barf:
Looking forward to my 749 mile drive home... :flipoff2:
CabtopXLC 12-26-2006, 04:52 PM I swapped receiver hitch, 1980 locked axles, 4" Triangles, BCB shackles, 33x15.5x15 Swamper TSXs, winch bumper and 8274 onto my DD. We're renting a lake house and the lake is so low that I'm going to have to back way into the water to launch the. I'm not really wanting to get stuck in the lake. I picked up a Pull Pal since there are no trees within 150'. Fishing here in TX starts picking up in January. Hopefully I can go this coming weekend.

Snoopy 12-26-2006, 05:22 PM I started and finished my shopping. Nothing on anything fun
misterfubar 12-27-2006, 08:31 AM Nothing Scout related at all, although I did get my garage cleaned up and organized enough that I can fit both cars in it again. It's amazing how dissassembling 2 axles can take up an entire garage stall.
Saturday I drove 300 miles to eat lunch and do festivus with my dad's side of the family... spent 8 hours total driving for a 3 hour lunch.
Monday I sat around my parents house playing poker with my dad and broinlaw and getting fat on lamb and other goodies.
Sunday/monday morning I hacked into the nav system on my new car and added a trip computer that computes mileage on the fly, a new background picture and gave myself full access to all the diagnostics and yaw sensors. it's much more fun to play with now.
Now that my new axles are all torn down, I'll probably start the fun process of cleaning/blasting/painting everything this weekend.
Work is a real joy this week, most everyone took the week off so the few of us that are here can't do much work because we have no Inspectors or Test Pilots.
scout254 12-27-2006, 02:49 PM drove +/-250 miles....:shaking: Nothing scout related, still working on my brothers toyota.
james west 12-27-2006, 03:47 PM didnt do any wheeling, but i did bring my scout home from the shop for the first time in 1.5 years:D ....its been a long build up:flipoff2:
so i proceeded to do some mall wheelin' for last minute shopping purposes...damn it was nice to ride around town with no doors or top again...

feel free to joke on whatever i have in my garage:laughing: ....it's a garage, not a fab shop...

My local PickNPull charges twice that :( but 1/2 price days are this weekend :)
Not much Scout stuff happening too busy with work and family.
As for future projects, what about setting up a newer ECM for the electronic trannys. There are a couple guys out there with newer GM stuff:D

What do you have in mind.
IIRC the 700r4 was used with the 7747.
But I am working on a swap to the later PCM's from the early ECM. These have the auto tranny control.
There's really no difference other then the software to do the programming. Take a look at tunercat applications and pick an engine tranny combo!!:)
Snoopy 12-28-2006, 01:45 PM James, what's the deal man. You only got a picture of the back? :shaking:

Depends on how new.
Here is one option I found on the web. This is a GM unit that could be found in a junkyard or dealer. There are others that are aftermarket.
Delco makes a
stand-alone transmission controler with LOTS of parameters. It's the16128420
transmission ECM. Natively used to control a 4L80E in diesel trucks which
have no engine ECM. I think it may be limited to 4-speeds (or less) with TCC
clutch.
It is OEM hardware (read-well built) and is supported by TunerCAT and uses
a socketed EPROM and can be real-time tuned with an emulator. Also
diagnostics supported by many scan tools including EASE and Snap-On.
