We were up christmas day, there was just a couple feet of snow then. There is supposed to be a couple more after tonight. We were thinking of doing a run on new years.

If you go up make sure you Do Not park at the Loon Lake Chalet.........We went up a few weeks ago and the FS said they will TOW trucks and trailers away.....

Wentworth is the best route and parking shouldnt be a problem.

I would plan on packing for a overnighter..........Depends how set up your crew is.

I just went in friday and there was 2 feet or less. Everything is clear thru the box but walker was a little icy, it'll laugh at your chains. Bring a chainsaw though, it was WINDY since then.

What happend to parking at the Chalet? I thought that was the best place to park. I wouldent be parking there in the winter anyway but, did I miss something?

I believe Kevin means parking around the Chalet, on the pavement. The open area off pavement should still be open. But it is suggested to use the Wentworth enterance, not Loon Lake and the gatekeeper

You can park accross from the Chalet in the Gravel Parking lot. Do Not park on the pavement surrounding the Chalet.

I would imagine that the Loon entrance will be closed soon so the skiers can use it. Remember our main entrance is Wentworth Springs during the winter months.

Should be a good time,as far as walker hill we are taken pics and video tape of the event:) i will post them up .Does anybody know how deep the water is through wentworth?Last year water came over the hood and the 6-8 inches of ice we had to break through wasn't fun(jeep would climb on top and then break through) :shaking:

It has been below 10 degrees up there. I would bet the ice is bad.

I am building a gaurd for the bottom of my radiator. It was pretty bad last year ,so bad that i had a 3ft chunk of ice wedged between my gas tank and rear end, front axle and oil pan,and broke winch control box .I have since then built a big bumper,I am also thinking of detachable wedge on the bumper:laughing:

Well we left sat. instead of sun. and the snow is getting deep.2-3 ft at wentworth campground ,the ice was expected with 4-6 inches thick, with creeks 38" deep in the morning and 44" deep on the way out at times. We got close to gerle(sp?)creek with 3-5 ft(?)of snow we all buried our 42" tires with no sign of bottom(heavy pigs). Any granite slab has 2-3"of ice at the bottom of snow.Last tire tracks stopped a little after the campground, which made it hard to find the trail.Could of made it to walker hill but I lost a u-joint at lunch time on my driveline(should of changed them after sand mountain) and we lost motivation. The snow was melting quickly and the creeks are rising so we left, also there is a tree down on the way in,it needs a bigger saw than my little 036 stihl.

How big is the tree? How big of bar is needed and where is it? Looking forward to moving out of your way.

A bunch of us went to Fordyce Creek yeasterday via Eagle Lakes. Snow was at most 18" on the trail, mostly 6" to 1 foot. Not much at all. Infact the snow didn't even start until around 5000 feet and it is scarce...
