: Ranger master cylinder with dan 60's
BigWhiteStroke 12-26-2006, 11:19 PM Im in the process of swapping dana 60's into my ranger. I have the dual piston front calipers, and as of now have drums in the rear. Possibly switching to discs in the future. Is there a master cylinder I can get off another vehicle that will bolt onto my booster but give me more fluid flow? Thanks.

You'll probably have to match the bore and stroke of the master cylinder from the donor truck. Lots of master cylinders interchange - just check the bolt pattern. I'd think that the Ranger one would be way too small - and I have the same problem upcoming. I've not done the research yet, but I'll probably spend a day in the salvage yard with tape measure in hand...
BigWhiteStroke 12-27-2006, 10:08 AM Yea, the truck I got the axles from is along gone. As rusty as the axles were, I don't think the master cylinder would have been good for anything except a core charge.
gfbgreaser289 12-27-2006, 12:00 PM you'll be ok with the stock one. if you go disk in the rear then you will have to get a explorer one. i have a d60 rear with drums and a hd44 front mine works fine for me. and my calipers are the same ones you have on the front of that 60. my truck is on the for sale section if you want to look at pics of it.

Yeh, but you gave me the M/C remember (maybe not from that exact truck but it was an M/C from some fullsize ford)? You want it back?
The stock ranger M/C did ok w/ single piston (78 chevy 1/2 ton) calipers at all 4 corners but that was with 36" mil tires and trail only. I gave Josh the 3/8 caliper bracket that was on my 60 for his hybrid 70F so I'll probably make a bracket and re-use the single piston chevy stuff on the 60 so I'm interested to see how this works out as well.
I find even the bronco master too small with big calipers and disc brake conversion in the rear.
could be I have other issues (everthing in the brakes is new exept the pedal linkage) but the second stroke of the pedal seems to be slightly better then the first so I think the master is a tad small.
trucks that came with the big brakes came with a bigger booster and master.

Yea the stock cylinder worked fine with the half ton single piston calipers, but I now have the dual piston 1 ton calipers. I think there gonna need lot more fluid flow. As for that master I gave you Bear...its off a 79 ford, and is not going to work for what I need, I don't think.

No, he won't either.
I have 91 X with the stock MC pushing fluid to single piston 44 fronts and single piston calipers on the rear 60 and it barely has the balls to brake the truck and gives a soft pedal.
Swapping in a dual piston 60 up front and I know it won't stand a chance with stopping things. I'm planning on going back to the junkyard and yanking the MC out of the 94 F350 I pulled the d60 from to see if it will fit the stock X booster. Its a given that then actuator rod will have to be adjusted.
If you figure out something before I do, PM me. I'm still a ways from messing with brakes on it.
i have a 92 ranger. it has a HD 44 front, with dual piston calipers, and discs on a 14B rear. stock master cylinder works fine...
AKBroncoII 12-27-2006, 06:14 PM I tried the stock master on a 91 explorer with single piston calipers front and rear. It was no where near enough. Swapped to an E350 master and everything was good again. What is the bore on the stock masters? 7/8''s? IMO it's marginal for anything other than the stock brakes.
Nobody 12-27-2006, 08:32 PM Stock is 15/16". Here is a good site for finding the bore sizes of various master cylinders.

I put hydroboost on my Bronco II, it pretty much bolted right up. It's the only way to go.

glfredrick 12-28-2006, 05:18 AM I'm presuming that you found that hydroboost setup on a diesel Ford model, right?
Good setup. Lots of MC - not so much room lost to the booster.

i'm highly interested in find out what that booster came from :D
WHITE RHINO 12-28-2006, 11:58 AM you'll be fine bro i have a 44 front and eaton 14 bolt rear disks all the way around single piston in the rear and duals up front running 38s and it stops better than stock i have had absolutely no problem with braking
BigWhiteStroke 12-28-2006, 12:55 PM I went aheah and measured the master cylinder on my F-350 (96) and it jut so happens they bolt up the same. I went and got one from the parts store last night and I think it ran me around 60.00. So it should now stop better than my Powerstroke.
Offrhoder4x4 12-28-2006, 05:19 PM Good to hear. I haven't gotten to the junkyard to get the MC off the donor 94 F350. Post up any adjustments you have to do to the rod.
Nobody 12-29-2006, 03:55 PM My hydroboost came from an astrovan. Cost me $10 at the pull-a-part. I used a corvette disc/disc master.
