Newbie Question.
I always ran Cut down shafts but grabbed my f-150 spare out the garge and looking at the Warn Chart it says there about 1/2 longer (short side inner) then the EB one. Should i Just take a chop saw and trim a little off or just push harder.
I guess i could go check myself, but don't feel like : D
EB was 18.31 and F-150 was 18.91

I say go for it! Chop that baby off, but only if you are going to use it as a spare. If its to be for regular use, then Id think twice about it. are you running a locker on that axle?

Edit: never mind, I just read your sig.... I dont think Id do it, Could end up ruining your ARB.

I would chop it off a little. However I have seen and know people who have used them the way they are. One guy swears that they work just fine, but then again the front housing never lasts more then a year(tough truck racer) I guess he would never know about long term effects.

Yeah i am going to put it on the Ban saw and chop it down a little, to match my other spare

if you chop off 1/2" wont that put the seal surface out of range of the seal? Leaking gear lube everywhere?

If you do cut it down for a trail spare i would slide a spider gear on the shaft before cutting. Once the cut has been made you can tap the spider gear off and it will help clean the splines a bit.

I pulled my short side out and it was cut down. I had bought a replacement short side ass'y for a front 44 EB and slipped it in without cutting and it is doing just fine. 18 3/16" cut down, did not measure the new one. (OOPS!)

It might be a good time to pull the front cover Mark. Check out just how much clearance you do have. While your at it and have the cover off check just how long and how short an axel will fit. Somebody is always asking the question and some hard data would be nice.
BTW, you should have done CalRoc's.:D

I know, People have been calling me asking where i was :(

The sealing surface is no biggie, its the same size 1/2 futher down the shaft, just has rust on it.

I don't donlt know about puling the cover, that seems like a lot of dirty work :D
I chopping it down today and will slide it in the housing sometime later, it sure looks like it should fit just fine

LOL i have 1 spare short inner and 2 spare stubs now.
I still have no spare long, and that was the one that been busted twice.
Thats not a pick and pull item either, and i ain't going to pay 100 bucks for a stock shaft, i have to just save up for a warn long side or a 60, If travis decides to pass on that other 60, that means woo hooo for mark!
