Thought i'd post my rig on here again now its finished (insofar as getting my LJ build up and running)

it was originally posted on here by another guy off a UK forum i post on, a work in progress pic.. (for the thread heres the "link" (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=523512))

i was asked for videos on that thread so thought id post them up...

so far the setup has proven itself to be pretty good. no bad unloading on hill climbs, no bad handeling on road - i've driven on the freeway[sic] at 60mph without any problems whatsoever, and its improved the off roadability of my zook tenfold

since ive only just started off roading it again and tested it, as i said, here are some videos of the first few times off road... and no bits ripped off the chassis...

nice easy hill climb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvIc9JjW-l0)

harder climb (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOVEtMoPl3I)

same climb, different angle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEBvJ18dhzU)

and then the ruts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW06pRVWPF0)

just thought it might be of interest since it produced such a heated debate

Cheers,
Andy

the arguement was that when it gets side loaded, it'll be at risk, not going straight into ... "ruts" and straight up that hill.

its not exactly going straight into those ruts now is it?

and what do you mean going straight up hills? isnt that what everyone was saying about unloading?

if you go up a hill at an angle any rig is likely to tip over...

i take it "ruts" is a british term then?

Sorry I had to shoot off earlier Andy. It was fun while it lasted. :(

Truck looks very good in the vids.:smokin:

For those who are interested, the only spec change from the original idea was a tiny damper on the link itself to make it smooth in operation and we fitted a panhard bar to the front axle and an anti wrap bar to the rear axle.
Andy tells me it's now fantastic on road and really pleasant to drive off road and exactly how he wanted it. :cool2:

I'm sure someone will be along any second to tell you that you should have 4 link'd and coiled it (again), even though thats exactly what you didn't want to do with this truck.:)

Looks good to me... It looks like a sort of missing link set up and I see alot of people running them here... Looks good to me and as long as you like it then who cares what anyone else thinks....:smokin:

in the original thread we suggested adding a panhard bar, which was done.

without a panhard, if you were to be on a sidehill, slide sideways in teh front end, and smoke something, the amount of force going into your front hangers would have been immense.

i said "ruts" because they're not terribly big... if it's all you got around the uk so be it. around here the guys with 44+ inch rubber like to tear holes that hang up most normal sized rigs up like nothing.

the unloading usually occurs when you start to rock hump, or go down a hill and hit the brakes.

as for side loading and rolling, every rig has a point where it can side hill. and when you are on a rock and slide off, that is a side load that could shear something. with out the panhard it wouldn't be drivable.
