We've been lookin for some other places to wheel, espeacially snow. I really don't like just drivin up some snowy paved road. I do like high speed, fully gettin it tho. ANyone know of a place to go, within distance. where tow rigs can park?
Anyone been to Fordyce lately, how is the road going into the lake from the cisco side?
ALso i've heard of a couple places in that area accross the highway.
PM me if you don't want "other" people knowin where it is... hehe....

Unless it dumped up there in the last week, ther's not much. I went up last thursday when it was 39 degrees at my house. NO snow in Inskip and didn't start snowing until Snag Lake, with maybe 6" on the ground. IT was snowing a little better higher up, but still off and on rain was the report from my brothers that went to Cambell that day.
Brenda, if you guys are up for a drive, there is some awesome snow wheeling out of Chester. Unlike the High Lakes there are huge, cleared meadows where you can fully get it through 4' of powder. Some nice steep creek beds and typical mountain snow wheeling.
I've heard there's some good spost on the West side of the valley, but have never been

I was up there on the 16th and there was probably 3 feet at spring valley. I just figured it was going to be more since it had been raining.

Wilson - real nice - I would definetely be down, except the drive thing. we are going for a day run and would like to keep it a little shorter... we're trying to go on "National Hang Over Day" 1-1-07 ... but it may still be an option. Let me know what your plans are and what the hell you've been up too. I'm glad they got that whole "Wilson" thing figured out. Hit me up and shoot me some directions and i'll run it by the boys. Happy Trails! B~

There is about 2-3' @ Spring Valley as of almost a week ago. It's a fair amount, but there's usually more by this time of year and certainly more at lower elevations. For the past 3-4 years there's been about 2-3 feet @ Inskip for the New Years run.

B- I'll get back to you. In the past we've done a V-day run up in Chester with the wives and SO's. Not sure about this year, but we do plan to make at least one loop trip from the high lakes to Chester and back, for the streetable rigs.

Vertigo,
Winter funfest is Jan 12th-14th. I do not go on the runs but on Sunday the 14th We will be playing in the local river bed Greenhorn creek. It is right above Rollins lake and about 15 min from Colfax. There is usually about 500 vehicles out there from buggies to stock DD's. Lots of dirt bikes and quads. It is not very hard but lots of fun. We might go out on Saturday and camp for the night if the weather is good. We have Jeeps and Toyotas most full width and all running 37's-42's.

When you are going down "You Bet road" you will go over a bridge above the creek. On the other side of the bridge there is a poll off to the right were you can park. On the left there is a road to the gravel plant. You can park on the side of that as long as you are off of the road. Take that road threw the rock plant to the riverbed. (I talked to the owner and they do not care if we go threw as long as we go slow)
If that is all full keep going on the road it will split and you go left. It will then turn in to dirt road and split again go left. This road will take you to the riverbed up stream from the bridge. Park any ware on the dirt road you want lots of pullouts. Then keep going tell you hit the creek. There is also parking at the creek.
If you go PM me we might go out on Saturday and camp.

High Lakes sucked this weekend. Wet, non-packing snow at the higher elevations, wasn't too bad down lower and in the trees. Far from ideal snow condiitons. Still better than sitting at home though!

Snow news in the highlakes area new years weekend sucked when deeper then 2-3 foot , it was like driving in powder sugar. As soon as you broke crust you were done. The rest of the jackasses didn't even make T-line/lotts lake turn off. But like Wilson said wheeling is still better then sitting at home. :D

IIRC pretty much right across the creek from where the road you take comes out there is room to park. I never cared for the way you take. To many assholes driving to fast on that road.

Yeah, following the tracks is always easy.....I was with the crew on Saturday making the tracks you guys found. It got to the point that I had a cj7 permanently attached to a strap and it was time to eat lunch and turn around. I base snow conditions on how they are outside of the tracks. Good conditions you can go anywhere, bad conditions, stuck in the tracks. I'm hearing a 3000' snow level tonight, might make things better.

Anyone going to the snow this sunday (1-7-07)?. Kinda wanted to drag the wife out for a day snow trip. I figure something up 80 or 50, not too far? I've never done a snow trip around here, so figure there's no time like the present.

All kinds of snowy wheeling east of Sonora. Pretty much all of the Stanislaus NF stays open in winter, & the best part, you could wheel for weeks & not see another sole....most of the time. If you look up Forest service road maps, look at 3N01 just east of long barn on 108, follow it out until you hit Hull Creek Camp Ground (depending on time of year, may not be able to get tow rig that far)....great place to park the tow rig, little chance of it bein messed with. (just to the left of the camp ground is the best fresh spring water you have ever tasted) left of the camp ground is OHV, but most trails are big enough for jeeps/less than full size rigs....to the right is good higherspeed road, & eventually takes you out to Cherry lake right now there is 2-3ft/ more in some areas....it is around 5K ft in elev.
Also, in the summer there is the Pacific Rim Trail, WAYY up around 9000ft....not as good as the rub, but has some pretty badazz stuff.
If you come up this way, make sure you have a CB, as cell phone recept is spotty. Ch17 is what most are on. 99% of the time you can get Tree Dr, or Double R. they have some BAD CB's, & have them relay for you (sometimes they are asses, but will relay if you have emergecy traffic)...I do not know them personally. There are about 30 of us that do off road rescues (lol went wheeling & broke or stuck), so just ask for freinds of audio expressions....LOL some of us may even be in the area...if not someone will come out...for a beer or 2
happy wheelin ;)
