I put some 36" swampers on my trail toy today and figured I'd not balance them since it's trailered on the street to the hard trails. I do drive it to the local trails and I found out tonight that they are definitly out of balance. I read here about someone using bb's in the tire to help it balance on the street. My question is, how many bb's?

Use golf balls. maybe 4 for a 36. Never heard of bbs.

I've never done it before but i have heard of it being done. when i get my 38s i plan on havin the tire shop throw em on a balancer and see how much lead it would take to balance em, then just use that weight or a little more in BB's. I think it should work, but since i've never done it i cant say for sure.

The idea of using an amount of BB's equal in weight to the normal lead that would be required will likely cause you to use quite a few more BBs than required.

My 36" TSL required 40+oz regular lead.

I get by quite well with about 8-9 oz BBs (which is approx. 750) but will throw in up to 12 oz next time I have them apart.

You can read a bit about it at:

i heard golf balls weigh 1.5 oz a piece and you have to remember that whatever you use will be at the outside of the tire instead of 10 " from it so it won't take as much weight. let us know how it goes

I use tire slime. I find if you add the recommened amount of tire slime for truck tires. you get the puncture proof tire and it self balances, it takes about 7 ounces of slime for a 225 85r 16. so figure up from there. I will say that if you pop a bead with a tire full of slime its a freaking nasty mess. However the plus is, that it seriously reduced side wall flats for me. I have punctured side walls with sticks as big as 3/4 around the tire has sealed.
