I pulled an NP205 case from a 1978 F350 with an auto. I assumed it was a C6. The Transfer case was bolted directly to the tranny, no adapter, if there was one it would have been aluminum.

I did a search but did not find a photo to confirm that the 205 used an adapter to connect to a C6

Any photos would help thanks..

F350 4x4s did not come out until 1979. The only auto used then was the C6 it came with either an NP 203 fulltime transfercase or an NP205 partime transfercase. An adapter was used for both, it bolted on to the C6 in place of the tailshaft housing. The rear output shaft has to match the adapter used, since there is a 3" difference in length. The adapter for the 203 is 5 3/4" long, and 8 3/4" for the 205. There is a boss on the left side of the adapter that the shifter bolts to. I have come across trucks that have had the 203 swapped to the 205 and there for on the short adapter. I can get pictures this weekend.

Thanks for the reply. The truck was a 78 for sure, I did not look for the month built. Since it was aluminum I thought it was part of the tranny and not an adapter. I sold the NP205 and they would like the adapter. Hopefully the truck is still at the JY. If not anybody have one they want to sell:D

So the 203 is a full time t-case

The 205 is a part time t-case, whicj I assume has 4 hi and 4 low

What is the t case with only 2 hi and 4 hi, no low?

Pictures emailed. I have both long (8 3/4" used with NP205), short (5 3/4" used with NP203), adapters for the C6 and the 8 3/4" used with the NP435 4spd and NP205. Choice $40 plus ride.
