: FS bronco on rocks
my_samurai 12-29-2006, 10:43 AM Hey all i have been mia for a while here. i started a new project about a 2 weeks ago using a 89 fullsize bronco 351W,C6 3speed and bw1356 tcase so far what i have i the rear rockwell is bolted in using a set of skyjacker lifts springs from a 8" lift kit the srping orginally gave me about 7" of lift. The front is going to be running a set of leafs out of a mid 80's chevy blazer, using the blazers rear shackle, flipped on the front of my bronco. i will have pics coming soon with a whole write up on what i have done and plan on doing..I have a set of 39 boggers on 15" wheels, looking for bigger tires and beadlocks. full hyrdo steering , detroits F/R and shaved pumkins. i figure i would give you guys a heads up on whats going on here is the south this how she looked b4 the rockwells took over....ill have pics tomorrowhttp://www.supermotors.org/getfile/171377/fullsize/DSC00346.JPG
my_samurai 12-29-2006, 10:44 AM I got most of the sus. works done, i still need to put on some front shocks and weld the rear shocks mounts up. i have the rear drive shaft already with 1330joint on the tcase end with out the CV joint and 1410 joint on the rockwell end. i only have one pinion brake right now, ill soon order another. i moved the hydro ram for the steering to the front of the axle and welded on a tab to the rockwells steering knuckle, i had to heat the knuckle to 500* in order to weld on that cast metal..that was a pita. im still lacking one hydro line coming from the pump to the ortial valve, i have a hard time finding the right style fitting for the pump on the pressure port to go to the pressure port on the valve which is a 8n hydro tread any ideas?http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid221/p413555427d251730ce1d2608043e6181/eb64e355.jpg

mooktank 12-29-2006, 10:47 AM sweet stuff right there.
plug ugly 12-29-2006, 11:02 AM cool, rockwells.
kirshbom 12-30-2006, 02:36 PM The old president of CAOS offroad used to run around in a FS Bronco, 460 on rockwells. He ran 38.5" tires and it was as low as possible. It worked great. But don't bother leaving the garage with out some sort of axle wrap device. Chains, anti wrap bar whatever. You won't make into third gear before you spit a drive shaft or twist a leaf spring.
F250 n YZ250 01-03-2007, 08:11 PM Looking pretty meaty, what are you going to be doing about that engine crossmember?
WHITE RHINO 01-03-2007, 08:45 PM id like to do a rockwell crawler one day pretty bad ass

OkLaHoMaYJ 01-06-2007, 05:04 PM Nice Bronco..My dad used to have an 84 Ford Bronco with a 351 and that was the first vehicle that got me into the 4wheelin hobby.
Anyway...is it just me...or does that hydro steering setup scare anyone or is it just me??
wtr40rock 01-16-2007, 12:01 PM Sweet lookin truck got love anything on rockwells. Make sure you watch the hydro cylinder if you get on the rocks.:D
emotiovascular 01-16-2007, 10:51 PM nice pix, thanks :)
my_samurai 01-18-2007, 03:46 PM ive built some traction bars fornt and rear..the front had more wrap than the rear did..they are made of 1.5x1/4" dom tubing and 3/4 heims and rubicon express brushings on the axle end. ill try and get some pics up soon. also the steering ram was moved to the rear of the axle so i wont be smacking it on rocks.. ill soon work on a rear bumper and exo cage..right now im waiting on my double beadlocks should be here next week..those im excited about...oh yeha i got the sexy rock ring on them too....since the wheels are going to be so pimp im painting the rock rings hot motherfreaking PINK Yes sir!
Jaycar 01-18-2007, 04:21 PM I'm confused, in the early pics the hydro ram is on the back side of the axle, then you moved it to the front, why did you move it? was it interfering with the leafs?, and when you did move it why didn't you flip the knuckles back around instead of welding to the cast? It looks good, I like the rig. One more question, the wheelin pics show the cylinder in the front still, but your last post said that you moved the cylinder to the back again, what did I miss? I'm not being a smart ass I am just confused.
my_samurai 01-18-2007, 04:29 PM im had it in the rear at frist. but the way it was mounted i was in the way of the leafs. i welded it to the knuckle fot temp use only then i got around to moving it the back again with some new brackets that keep it off the leafs....sorry for the confusion. i bought some beadlocks instead of a high steer arm. one thing at a time for now
bigreen 01-18-2007, 04:40 PM the shackle hangers kind of scare me...all that cuttin you did doesnt leave much metal around the shackle bolts.
did you not shackle flip the rear springs??? your rear has more potential if you have not yet, maybe you have....they just look tucked up pretty far.
other than that.....things a beast for an offroad rig on 40s
JHALL 01-19-2007, 02:38 PM I am gathering parts to do this exact same swap and had a couple questions. 1988 Bronco (351W, C6, but probably going 203/205 doubler and 4 link front and rear). Did you keep the axles in the stock locations? It looks like the front might be moved forward slightly but can't tell for sure. And it looks pretty low for a rig on rockwells? How did you keep the cog down?
my_samurai 01-19-2007, 05:27 PM the front axle is forward about 4" as far as height goes i just did a lot of measuring to make it as low as passible. i have a 3" body lift on it as well but that is soon coming off to help lower it some more. Im about to build another bronco same year and motor for a buddy with rockwells and 4 link the front. but he wants to keep the axle in the factory location, so i was thinking about doing mine after we build his the same way but push the front axle out about 10" to clear the crossmember and oil pan all together. also i just picked up a 205 adaptor for my c6...so thats in the near future to sawp that in as well. if you are going to four link it youll be able to keep it fairly low.
JHALL 01-19-2007, 08:24 PM I would like to see that. I'm planning on around a 120-125" wheelbase and figured I could get it pretty low with extending both axles outward. Your project looks a lot what I intend mine to. I was hoping I wouldn't be the only one doing this to one of these trucks. You don't see a whole lot of them out there on the trails.
my_samurai 02-01-2007, 08:06 AM heres a few update pics from tellico. so far everything worked really well. im in need of some better shocks thou.

Broncowayne 02-01-2007, 10:35 AM I,m starting a project putting rockwells under my 78 are you running headers if so what did you do to clear the front drive shaft
JHALL 02-01-2007, 11:31 AM Are the hubs flipped in or are the axles full width? And what backspacing are you running on your wheels?
