Ok i let my 94 set for awhile and now i have some white smoke. it runs rough and i have already done the normal tune up. also i have some oil coming out of the dipstick pretty good.
Also was going to build a stroker for mine and was wondering will a 454 throttle body work on a 350 wiring harness.
has any body done this?
how did it work out for you?

I am running a 454 TBI on my stroker.
You will have to use the IAC plug from a 454 wiring harness and swap a couple of wires to make it work. I think it was A and D are switched to make it work right. The 350 IAC uses a square plug and the 454 uses a flat style.
The other thing is if you use the 350 intake you will have to open up the throttle bores a little to clear the throttle blades since they are a 2" and the 350 is a 1 11/16th. You will also have to change the injecters to 350's, the 454 injecters run pretty rich. Other then that it is a nice swap and works great.

Just keep in mind that any mods from stock will/should require tweaking the chip in the ECM.
No mods should just be bolted on without optimizing the fuel and timing.
Some people get away with some small changes but if you ever logged the data from the computer you would see a lot of room for improvement.

what kind of chip tuning do ya'll suggest. jet, hyper, or custom tune like westers or fast.

also 454 injectors will be to rich for a stroker motor. whats the point of the big throttle body without the big injectors

Airflow baby, just get bigger injectors(higher psi) that are 350 replacements and run an adjustable fuel pressure regulator(check out CFM technologies-lots of good TBI stuff

If you really want to do it right..then do it yourself..
Take the time to learn how the system works and what it needs to be happy...fuel/spark.
Then for about $130 (depending on your ECM)at www.moates.net you can convert the chip socket in the ECM to a EEPROM and burn your own chip as many times as you want without the need for an eraser.
But if you just want to plug and play parts on your truck ....then find someone that will burn a chip based on the data from your truck...not just some generic chip that you mail order.
You need to log data while you drive yours and then send it to the company so they can modify the chip specifically for your engine combination.
anything less is just a guess!!!
Now if your eyes glossed over after the first sentence then you have a lot of research and reading to do!!!

no i comprehend, i saw that eprom over on the fullsize chevy board, sounds like the best thing. is the burning pretty straight foward

The burning of the chip is the easy part. Takes about 1 minute.
It's the knowing what to change that takes all the time!!!
You might want to start with the FAQ's in the FI forum on the BB. There is also a very detailed "how to" on the www.thirdgen.org site.

How is a fuel pump going to make white smoke?
I assume you mean out the tailpipe and not some cloud of smoke coming from under the truck.
Fuel is black
Oil is blue/grey
water is white

no i was guesing the extra fuel pressure might have caused it but maybe its time for that 383.
