: Streched EB
SonicDonkey 12-29-2006, 09:21 PM Does anyone out there have info on stretching an EB. Im looking for some pros and cons, where to stretch, how much, and if there are any side view photos that would be nice. In the end my finished product will be on stock width axles and full sheet metal but I am considering adding 5-10" on the length. Thanks

Looks gay...I have more pix if you want them
lil-bronc 12-30-2006, 09:50 AM On my old EB I linked the rear and ended up with a 100" wheel base. I found it was better on some of the bigger obsticals. I also kept the stock width axles.
SonicDonkey 12-30-2006, 09:58 AM Josh, Yep that is gay. not looking do make it look like a H1 just to get closer to the 100" mark. Im currently in the middle of a 4link set up in the rear and dont necessarly want to change the body too much if necessary. I would consider adding a few inches of quarter pannel in front of the wheel well and moving the wheel well back also.

I don't have pics but have thought about it for a long while now. I agree that pic is gay looking. But I'm guessing is 125-135" long. Anyway, if I were to strech an EB and had no limits I would first push the front axle forward about 6 inches. This would mean rebuilding a ton of mounts, but I said "no limits" and to me that's the smart thing to do for weight distribution and approach angle. EB's are nose heavy and need better approach angles. Then...if you want it longer, I'd cut the tub in 1/2 just behind the door...say 3 inches or so...frame too...litterally cut the truck in 1/2. Then add the necessary body mounts/sheet metal/frame to get the length you want. This keeps the wheel tubs in place relative to the axle and in the end I'm convinced would be easier to do. I'd shoot for 105...maybe 107 for a wheelbase.

My rig was built in '01-03. We started with a stretched custom frame-mandrel bent from what was then advanced frame works, added 12 inches in the frame under what is the stock door region. This allowed us to add 12" from a donor tub cutting both behind the back of the rear door post. This maintained the stock lines, with a small amount of sheet metal added at the bottom to complete the bottom body line. We moved the rear axle back to end up with a wb of 106". I still have the rig and enjoy driving it on trails as well as on the street. The axles are full width 60's. Here is a link to some pics:

The suspension is very traditional- extended arms front with coils, leaf springs rear with a traction bar.

Rockcrawler_101 12-31-2006, 03:29 PM That is the nicest EB i have ever seen!
MattyB4x4 01-01-2007, 01:54 PM any pics of the comp cut rear fenders?
SonicDonkey 01-01-2007, 06:41 PM kbebs, Nice Bronco! Thanks all for the input as well. After sitting under it last night I think I figured a way to add 7" to the rear w/o stretching the frame or tub. All of this is while 4-linking the rear and so I can make my links any lenght I need/want and since it needs quarters anyway I will move the inner and outer wheel well back 7" without changing the tub length. Looking at the front I may be able to add an inch there kind of easy since I have adjustable radius arms already and just modify steering and track bar. This should get me around the 100" mark

Sure.
Sonnenburg 01-03-2007, 08:08 AM My wheelbase is 116" - I didn't stretch the body, just moved the front axle forward and the rear back. It seems to do pretty well, and I love the approach/departure angle

Dude! That is one Bad Ass Bronco!! Great work! Have you had it out on the trails yet?
