: Need Engine
tdculp 12-29-2006, 11:53 PM It appears I may need a new engine for my 95 SWB 3.9. Mine overheated, but went an additional 35k miles before what I fear is the block failed. So, I am somewhat concerned about getting a used engine, as you never know the history. Anyone have any experience with used engines? What would be best, another 3.9, 4.0 or 4.2, or finding a good block and using my internals?
PT - Thanks so much for all of your help and respones to my PM's...I took the head off today, looks fine, I'll have a machine shop verify, but I am planning for the worst so I'd like to start researching for a replacement engine. I'd have no problem building one up if I new the block was good. My Crank, Rods and Pistons "mic'd" out well within specs 35k ago, so I would assume they are still good, and could use those parts if I could find a good block.
PTSchram 12-30-2006, 05:47 AM Will Tillery, Dominic Perrodeau, Pendy. Any one of them might have an engine for you.
In spite of my fears, the supply of engines seems to be holding steady as long as folks don't continue blowing them up.
When you get done, send me the old block.
Spupilup 12-30-2006, 06:37 AM I have a very nice long block out of a '95 RRC SWB that I'm selling for $400. The engine ran well before the truck was parted out. I'm in CT if you are interested.
aloharover 12-30-2006, 07:08 AM I have a complete 6.2 sitting here ready to go. Only thing missing is the alternator.
Roadsiderob 12-30-2006, 03:22 PM Tdculp,
Where are you located?
SlowRVR 12-30-2006, 05:04 PM I have a complete 3.9 sitting on a pallet but it's in Nova Scotia

evilfij 01-02-2007, 07:28 AM If you like the truck pony up for a used 4.6 short block and a crower cam and a 4.2 LWB chip.
pendy 01-02-2007, 11:27 AM I have a dozen engines to choose from.
JP
Roadsiderob 01-02-2007, 11:41 AM I have a few as well, but the shipping from Abq would probably be unreasonable. I'm sure you can find something closer...like Kansas.

Oh yeah? I beg to differ.
Might not paint them rainbow colors, but you do paint things...

tdculp 01-03-2007, 08:31 AM Cylinder head checked out fine, so I guess it is a problem with the # 3 cylinder in the block. Going to start returning emails and calls now to locate a replacement long/short block. Just out of curiosity though, is the #3 cylinder prone to failure as I cannot see any evidence of the liner shifting???
PTSchram 01-03-2007, 08:49 AM Just because you can't see any thing with that cylinder does not mean that under engine operating conditions, pressure/temp, that it might not begin to leak.
