: Wheels....for a Dana 60
NOTPRETTY 12-30-2006, 06:16 PM I'm looking for some cheap black steel wheels that are 16 x 10 with 8 on 6.5 pattern and standard back spacing. 15 x 10's are cheap...about $55.00 each. But when you go to 16 x 10 I can't find anything under 83.00. Anyone direct me to a good source for these wheels....?
Not going Hummer rims...gonna street it.
Summit was 85.00
4wheel parts was 83.00
Les Schab is over $100.00
Americas/Discount...over $100.00
Somebody has to have that wheel cheaper...
fordman1978 12-30-2006, 06:23 PM i have the same problem. but its even harder to find 16.5 wheels with the 5 on 5 1/2 pattern!
BroncoShawn 12-30-2006, 06:28 PM 16's aren't as popular so cost more. $83 is a good price, but Summit has free shipping after you pay the $10 handling fee.

I hear you, but that just doesn't make sense. 55.00 to 83.00...I don't get that.

I'm wondering what a person is doing putting 8 on 6.5 on 5 on 4.5. Sounds like someone wants big tires on an axle that isn't built for it. There is a reason the factory chooses the patterns they do. Yikes.
Anyway, despite this concern...I can't add any spacers/adapters and thus making the alxe wider. I need to keep the outside to outside length down. In fact I can go no less than 3.75 back spacing on the rims with my axle or I won't clear a gate on a local trail I need to run.

he is in the process of building a buggy..had rims/tires..bought a cheap beater for a few runs..didnt want to buy new rims/tires the the beater..spent about $100 (dont really know exact ammount) for adapters vs $$$$ for rims and tires...viola..cheap wheeler!!
jopes 12-30-2006, 08:11 PM why not just run hummer beadlocks? they sure are cheap enough
NOTPRETTY 12-30-2006, 11:21 PM why not just run hummer beadlocks? they sure are cheap enough
Honestly I just don't understand them enough to know what I need. I do know this...they aren't street legal and I'll be running on the street. I could risk that having heard many been pulled over and never got crap for it.
Also...are they really cheaper? You have to get the wheels first...how much for that with shipping. Then, I would need either spacers or to recenter. Recentering is more than new wheels. Spacers are gonna be 2-300.00 for 4. Then the part I just don't understand...plastic inserts or something like that...outer rings... I think I need a wheel sitting in front of me and someone to explain it. Yes, I just don't get it, but I've never seen one in person either...
jopes 12-30-2006, 11:41 PM if you say they are not legal, can you tell where it states they are not?
rock rings you can get them really cheap. it sounds like you do not have tires yet so picking a rim size is pretty open.
as for back spacing most people recenter them so they are wider, you want to be narrow, unless you need them closer to the axle then they are stock.

They are in fact street legal, they have a DOT approval number right on them, however, they are also stamped "Military use only", but since they are sold as government surplus, and if I am not mistake there is no End Of Use certificate written for them, you are not going to get into trouble for running them.

I found my 5 H1 wheels within driving range (about 60 miles) and paid $125 for five, with the run flats. I had centers cut at a local guys CNC plasma shop for $100. I cut out my old centers and welded in my new ones on my own, so yeah it is cheaper, especially if you shop around and dont just order everything you need from online buisnesses, add to this that you have a double beedlock, instead of a shitty wagon wheel, it is well worth it, even if you have to order centers from some company.

Read bilavista's article in the tech section, it makes it quite easy to understand. I have 8 bolt rims w/ mag run flats, took a bit of work to cut the runflats down (which are also the beedlock), but it was not that big of a deal, and was well worth it. Here's a pic...

Do you run on the street...? Welding in your own...in my case anyway...that would concern me with getting the straight and running true.
I just looked up the USA6x6 site and you can buy them for 40.00ea and get 8 bolts recentered for $150.00 each...no run flats...with "Pressed" recenter. I assume that means not welded...have no clue what the back spacing would be. I will be using the stock for arm on the knuckle with the tierod flipped above. So I'll need to clear it.
I assumed they did not have a DOT number on them...Gui/Geberhard seemed to think they were not street legal too...was going by what he said. I see the gray area you are detailing though. I'd be thrilled to have double beadlocked wheels. Just seems that when everything is added up I'd be spending about $5-600.00 for a set.
How wide is a stock hummer wheel...
NOTPRETTY 12-31-2006, 12:29 AM Just read Bella Vistas deal. That clears things up. And answered the width question. Hmmm. I'm wondering now. $323.96 for wagon wheels or another 300.00 for double beadlocks. And, I could get away with 4" back spacing...even 3.5" since these are so narrow. I cut down my Dana 60 by 2 inches. And, the Iroks I was thinking of buying would work nicely. I have to start selling all my spare parts and tires and see where I'm at. It could happen.
What's the difference in "Pressed" recenter and "welded" recenter...besides the obvious. I guess my real question is can Pressed be set to any backspacing that welded can be done to.
Wicked_S10 12-31-2006, 05:15 AM A pressed center refers to how the center is formed, not how it is put in the wheel. The pressed centers are like your standard wheel centers in a wagon wheel, they are pressed from a thinner sheet of material and have a slight cone like structure to the outside, makeing them quite strong. Pressed centers are normally out of 1/4" material where a flat plate center is normaly at least 3/8". The flat ones tend to be easier to bend, but you cannot get as much backspacing from a pressed center due to that "cone" on the edge, they are still welded in place.
I do not drive my buggy on the street, but I have a thread in Gen4x4 somewhere w/ my writeup on my recenter. Search under my user name, it was about 8 months ago. IIRC my runout measured less than .060 on each wheel, if I am not mistaken this is lower than most steel wheels come from the factory.

Wicked_S10 12-31-2006, 05:23 AM How wide is a stock hummer wheel...
I never measured mine, but I am pretty sure they are 9.75"s, a search on here should turn it up though, I have seen it listed numerous times.
I set my backspacing at 4"s, it was easy to jig up, and it was about perfect for my application. I think somewhere around 6"s is the most BS you can give them on a recenter because of a lip on the inner wheel, or you can take the stock BS, which is like 8" or 8.5"s.

jopes 12-31-2006, 07:58 AM I ran double beadlocks on the street for almost 2 years. never a single problem even considering how my bronco looked. rims are 20" stazworks
NOTPRETTY 12-31-2006, 11:20 AM Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm close to having to decide on the wheels and tires. Current thinking is Iroks 39.5s but going with the 16.5 Hummer wheels gives me a couple more choices. What do you all think on tires knowing I will be running on the street but just to and from the trail which is no more than 2 hours and I can avoid the HWY most of the time.
Anything over 55 MPH would be acceptable.
Price...around 300.00 per tire max give or take 50.00
mooktank 12-31-2006, 04:11 PM Not going Hummer rims...gonna street it.
I use hummer rims on the street. So do hummers.
jopes 12-31-2006, 04:19 PM I personelly like iroks
Wicked_S10 12-31-2006, 05:07 PM I just thought of something else that may be fairly cheap if you have decent j/y's around. Newer chevy 3/4 tons still are 8x6.5 bolt pattern, and there should be a fair amount of both steel and aluminum wheels out there for reasonable prices. Of course they will not meet your 10" wide criteria, but it may be an option. I originally misread the thread and thought you were looking for a different bolt pattern than 8x6.5
