I have a feeling it's going to be a while before any of us feel like tackling something like that again. Honestly for those of us who aren't competition level drivers with matching rigs, this trail is a two day affair. I think we pushed ourselves beyond the limits around the 18th hour. By that time we were having problems on the easy stuff and it was taking all our efforts just to keep our balance on the hill. It was definately an experience I'll never forget.

This trail is kinda weird in that the exit road is an adventure in itself. If I were to do it again, I would camp at the top of the big fall and tackle the scary, loose ,death defying off camber exit road in the morning. I think we topped the last big fall in about 11 hrs. We were towing a broken rig for a good portion of the trail. The exit road took 13 hrs. but that was again towing a busted rig. I loaded my rig in the trailer about 24 hrs. after unloading.

How does it compare to Wrecking ball? (My former favoite trail)
It doesn,t. The rock crawling portion is similar in length, but the difficulty is again as tough. All I can say is, I have run most of the JV trails, most of the the toughest AZ trails, and this one sets a new standard. Its one bad mofo.

Zuk broke the stub shaft on a D44. Then the bearing caps on the other sides u-joint tried to bail. Once he was up the waterfall he pulled the front shaft (which was starting to twist on the tube).

October is usually the turning point, just don't come down the weekend before Halloween, my club has an event every year on that weekend.

Yeah, I guess I need to get JV out of the way so I can cross Ca. off my list. I made some calls last night, there's a new kickass trail nw of Phoenix, north of Phoenix and we may go scout one on Memorial Day weekend (Sat).

I like new trails.

The AZ guys that I have had the privledge to wheel with were a great bunch ! The group from north of the border are a good group to wheel with and around the campfire are a riot !!!!
MOST get it on harder than I do and more power to them !! but I do take offence to someone that has never even met us , bad mouthing the group as a whole !
I would love to come to AZ and wheel with you guys, but on limited funds and two day weekends ---- a bit much. I tow my 85 toyota with my other toyota, (92 ex/cab, 4wd, 4cylinder !) so I am a bit slow on trips, but if I can get a week off------ I'm on the way !!!!!:p

It does appear that that "rock racing" is the newest bandwagon that everyone is in such a rush to jump on. I have talked to a few of the competitors. They don't sound so enthused to be in the series. Now they are stuck with sponsors and are obligated to show up. They say there is no time to do any wheelin'. That says a lot to me.
Why in the fawk is everyone baggin' on AZ? If it wasn't for him there wouldn't be any wheelin pics to look at. I've been on this board for a little while now, and the only pics I have really seen of anybody elses are of exciting pics of Fatkid's new bumper(yay), Fatkid parked on a wall in an alley, and Fatkid on his side. The only other REAL wheelin pics posted(you know, the ones with big rocks under tires, or some wet dirt), are by Mud Lite(U rok!)
No one has seen a lot of my pics because I have just started my first Zuk. Unless you want to see pics of a big orange Scout II...

Oh, and AZ never said he could "show you up." He just said(in so many words) that cone dodging isn't his gig. He gave you(Tin Benders) an open invite and got spit on. It DOES appear that the ONLY place you want to wheel is on the Hammers. How many times can you really run a trail? I recall seeing a pic of you on your door with the caption "Fatkid on one of his favorite lines..." That's when you know it is time to move on. Once I've done a trail, I do the same thing AZ does, Scratch it off my "to do" list.
Sorry to butt in here, but I got AZ's back. Consider it brown nosing because I really do want to run the baddest around, and Asylum is it for now, and AZ is going to be my new bestest friend!

Open invite to the Tin Benders. You guys will like our trails as much as we like yours. (And we really like those JV trails). I've done most trails out in the JV area, and that Upper Big Johson was a riot. But simply put the Asylum trail is a diffrent level entirely. Hope to see ya in sunny Az soon!

I don't suppose you happen to have any video of the run, do you? I was also curious to know what the largest tire size was among your group. I remember reading that there was a lot of issues with axle tubes hanging up. I'll be running 38x14.50's on a Sidekick. Hopefully not too top heavy, but we'll see.

Wheelin ability isn't measured on pics, nor is it on cones. BUT... his pics show that he is out there. We all know what he drives. I don't know what you drive. I know FATKID likes blue and white. :D . And I don't tend to look at pics of rock racing. Boring. I get the whole concept and all, It just ain't my bag. I like the idea that the trail I am helping to open up may have never seen a tire before. I like the quiet. And I like the sound of carnage at the same time. I don't care if there is a croud screaming and hoping that the 4x4TV camera might zoom in on me.
