the heater control (right knob) does not seam to want to change . it will only blow air out the defroster,I turn the knob and it will not go to the floor or out the vents. before this happened I had a battery issue where the battery was going dead and was jumping it for about a week. I replaced the battery then the control would not work. Could the battery have fried something?
out of warranty! GRRRR!

Sounds like the HVAC unit controller is bad. I thought they fixed the newer ones. Try swapping in a buddies unit from another (03 up I believe) truck and see if that fixes it then go to a wrecker if it fixes it and get a used one.
Hell, I even gone and test drove a used truck (with out the salesman riding) and gotten stuff like that for my truck! Especially stock radios! I just dove it down the road were a buddy had my truck waiting and swapped the parts and then returned!!! But I am not telling you to do anything like that!:D
Don't think the battery would fired anything. But you might have a drain while the key is off. But could have just been a bad/old battery! Most times when they go bad they will not hold a charge.

the hvac module may have locked up from cycling the power on and off with the key on. I would remove all the hvac related fuses to reset the module and try that first. I would help if you had it scanned and retrieved all the codes.

there are no vacuum lines going into the HVAC controllers in the pickup trucks.
