So, i am in need of a new tow rig, and i have a budget of about $15k. I am thinking used 95-98 F250 with a powerstroke. I am hoping to find one with around 50-75,000 miles. Are there any easy to eyeball potential problems?? Are there any usual maintenance issues that i should be aware of. I just want to try to spot lemons. Any info would be helpful.

I just heard that the 98 and up trucks have some mods done to the engine, is this true? more power than the 97-lower??

Same basic motor with the addition of a intercooler. I have a 97 stroke and the addition of a western deisel chip makes a big improvement in power. I have 112k miles on mine with no major problems-that includes the auto tranny. Many long hauls towing to Moab, NM, etc...

I wouldn't buy one that already is set up for a goose neck. Most probably are though... Check that place on Valley Mills, they only sell diesels. I think that is where Dustin found both of his and he got a pretty good deal on the last one.

thanks chico. I went and looked there today, and theirs were way over-priced. I will most likely have to find something in Dallas or Austin before i move...
