Who is running an LT-1 350 in their rig? I was wondering what people do about the "OPTI SPARK". i have a '95 corvette with one in it. well everyone always complains about washing off their motor or have a water pump start leaking which results in killing the opti spark. how do yall seal these things? i see people running them underwater no prob.

there's no real good way to seal it.

the 92 - 94's (except for b-body) are sealed from the factory, but they don't like water either. the 95+ and all b-bodys are vented.

no real harm in trying to seal it, but i don't see it working.

there is no way to get rid of the optical section of the opti and keep the factory computer.

optispark sucks but if u want to run lt1 u got to deal with it

I could be mistaken, but I think there is a coil pack conversion for the lt1 now. I've heard that somewhere, but now I have to go look to be sure.

I run an LT1 and the Opti Spark has been elimintated. I am not sure who makes the kit. My motor already had the kit installed. Call Frankie Fountain, I believe he either sells a kit or knows who does.

I had an issue with the optispark getting moist inside. When you buy a new one they come vented now. or at least mine did. you can track down Adam Ant on this site he had an LT1 and did all sorts of stuff to it and put a dist back on it and got rid of the opti.

Do you know if he's still running the stock intake?

MSD makes a new LT1 optispark-supposed to be good. I'm more of an LS1/SBC guy

that still uses the optical section of the opti.

LTCC, Deltec, etc.... they all still use the optical section of the opti. so, the opti still won't like water.

There is also a company that gets rid of the optispark and converts the ignition to coil-on-plug,just like the LS1. go to LS1tech.com,or any other late model gm forum, someone will know who to contact. I have read a few articles on this setup, seems great, just can't find the mags right now

That link I posted does that, but like iniviate said, it does still use the optical section. They say no high voltage is passed through it, which removes the source of damaging ozone that eventually leads to Optispark failure. I don't know anything about the kit though... just passing on info that was passed to me.

i also am an LS1 fan. but GM has been making the same motor for decades to fit in any gm vehicle. but now they come out with a bad-ass aluminum small-block that wont fit in anything!

2 friends of mine.. one has a deltec, the other an LTCC. both of them have had problems out of their opti.... or the conversion box itself.

personally... i've had a couple of different LT1 street cars for about the past 6 or 7 years. i've never had a single opti failure and i run an MSD iginition through all of them. i've sprayed a 375hp shot of nitrous through a 383 LT1 with the stock opti, stock coil, MSD box, 8mm wires, and autolite 104's..... with no problems blowing out the spark.

the coil on plug setup provides an awesome spark. there is no denying it. however, the stock setup works just fine for most people who aren't trying to make maximum horsepower.

i guess what i'm trying to say is that using one of those boxes to go to coil packs isn't a solution for keeping the opti dry.... and it isn't a concern for most people trying to make horsepower.

Screw it ill just put an LS7 in it. Anyway all bullshit aside. i am just want a reliable fuel injected small block. im choosing the LT-1 because i know some about them and i have one in my car, so i have extra parts. if i can figure out the opti, Ill wont have many worries.

WHAT!!!LS1's fit in darn near everything. You can even bolt up the older style trannies(700r4,manuals) real easy, there are many articles out there that prove it. get some motor mount adaptors and you can put the LS1 in anything that has motor mounts for the SBC. Tons of 3rd gen camaro guys do this. Check out HOT ROD mag,I know they have articles detailing the remarkable bell housing compatibility, very easy to do!!!!

www.camaroz28.com, the mecca of LT1 info. Search around there and you will find what you are looking for. As for LT1 vs LSx, for a trail truck Id stick with a LT1, they produce more torque off idle, while the LSx motors produce it at a higher rpm.

You can put a distributor in the LT1 without changing intakes (will need a new ecu, could do a megasquirt for about the same price as the ltcc. If you need some pictures I have a few of some conversions, I have done 2 so far and it just takes a lil time and some welding. I have been considering the lt1 in the buggie but the opti always got me agrivated.

Hope you get it figured out
