So here's the oiler plate that Rob Dassler was talking about in THIS THREAD. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=538723)

For those too lazy to follow a link, here's a quote from Rob talking about the plate:

"The oiling plate was a factory update done in 1995ish to help abate the spine wear problem. It wasn't a recall, but a factory update. They had us pull the pto plate & inspect the splines. If there was minimal to no wear we would install the oiling plate and send the car on it's way. Spline wear meant a mainshaft & input gear. The oiling plate was very simple & effective. It sandwiched between the bearing retainer & PTO cover plate and would collect oil and feed it into the spline area."

I got one of the plates and installed it today. Looks like a simpler upgrade than replacing the gears, ripping it apart, etc... A simple effective solution. I don't know what the part no. is for the oiling plate, or where to get them. Rob might have a few left.

Anyway, some pics to save me from typing 3000 words. :flipoff2:

The front side of the plate showing the o-ring and two locating pins that fit inside the ovaled out holes at 3 and 9 o'clock.

A detail showing the spiral groove that would essentially draw oil and create some kind of an oil pump to move the oil onto the shaft/gears while they are turning.

The plate installed. It comes with convenient one-word instructions.

Anyone with a more techie explanation is more than welcome to toss it in. I thought some pics would be interesting, so I took some.

Tomorrow the case goes in the truck. Any last requests for photos, you better ask soon. Oh yeah, the PTO cover is back on, so don't ask me to take it off again. :flipoff2:

So has anyone got a ghetto solution with a similar result if we can't still get these plates?

Hi if there is a problem sourcing these we have plenty in stock at Ashcroft Transmissions, modified to suit LT77 or 380, at £15 each, could easily post in a jiffy bag.

are you going to be taking pics of your install (because we love pretty pics)?

Pretty pics? Well, it's pretty tight underneath...we'll see. Usually when I get on my back under the truck with 125 lbs of t-case balanced precariously on a jack, I don't think much of snapping a pic.

Hi Ian, do these fit all LT230's and is there a shaft length difference from LT77 to R380?

I have an LT230R (manufactured in 83 I believe) with an input shaft which once belonged to an LT77.

Hi the 'oil feed plate' was only fitted to LT230 when used with R380 prior to 'cross drilled' gears being fitted. As you know the LT77 main shaft has a threaded end which will not fit into the center hole in the oil feed plate, so drill the hole to a larger size to accomodate the threaded shaft, this does not effect the effectivness of the plate.
The plate was supplied to later boxes which have the 'aluminium' PTO cover plate as opposed to the earlier pressed steel cover. The oil feed plate will not locate positively with the pressed steel cover!!. Hope this answers your question.

Thanks Ian.

Can you supply aluminium covers as well?
