I'm thinking about building a new frame from scratch and I want to know how you would design one. Anything from tube dimensions (2x4 or 2x5), wall thickness (3/16 or 1/4), modifications/additions to original design, all the way to actual dimensional drawings.

I know I can buy after-market, but it is just a copy (beefier) and I figured somebody out there must have thought of a thing or two they would like to see changed in the design.

Go ahead and flame away, something tells me even if you think this is stupid you will be comin' back here to see what other people have thought up.

Hi ABC,
No need to flame...your asking a tech question and it's not about your defroster like some newbies.
I used 2" x 5" 3/16"on my cj5 ......2x4x1/8" works for some people...I've been happy with my choice, the extra inch gives me room to mount things up and out of the way, I.E.- exhaust,t-case, wiring, brake lines, and my one of a kind suspension components had a lot to do with my choice.
I also went wider to better use the space and accommodate the huge axles.
oh and another thing, the larger the tube the more air storage you can have...mine will hold about 9 gal.;)

I do like my 1/4 inch on 3 sides and a 1/2 inch on the bottom for threaded holes for the skid plate. I didn't make it , but it is stiff enough that I don't have any more problems with the clutch linkage binding up. Just a couple of things to think about.
