View Full Version : What Are These Worth?

Got my cage built this weekend, and I am going to have to lower my seats. If I can't realistically lower my stock seats, I'll have to go aftermarket.
If I sell my stock seats, what's a fair price I could expect to get for the front and rear in grey leather, heated? No wear or rips, etc.
Not much tech, but if I sell them I'll post a thread about the new seat installs.:p

Just because I don't know, are we talking about a Disco? What year?
I know that for a 95-96 D-I you can cut the tubes that are part of the seat mount and reweld them.
If you relocate the ECU it looks like you have 3-4" inches of space to play with

Sorry 'bout that. It's a 2000 DII.

The tubular mounts went away with the manual seats. It is rare to find a Disco with manual seats made after '95. Disco ECUs are not beneath the seats.
The electric seats use sheet metal brackets that are spot-welded to the floor.
FWIW, seats usually aren't worth a whole lot, I know of folks having to give theirs away to be rid of them.

Sounds like I got very lucky then with my manual, like new condition, free seats.

Check with Will Tillery, he has a good handle on the cost of these in the used market.

Ive seen disco seats go for more than $300 a pop depending on the color and type. Which reminds me, I have some side facing D-90 seats in fair condition what are those worth these days.

LOL, I had to fight to get $70 for a perfect rear seat from a Disco and AFIRover had to give his rear seat away.
I offered Keith K a set of nice fronts with all the wiring and brackets to retrofit Karen's truck, but the $ I was asking were too high and I wasn't asking much.
Your D90 seats are likely much more valuable.

i had a friend recently get a set for his D2 when the adjustment motors and heater elements took a poo so there is somewhat of a market. i'd try over on dweeb and see what kind of response you get; or flea-bay. or shit, craigslist in your local area. advertise them as "gaming" seats and tell them they can plug the seat heaters into a wall.

Thanks for the input. It seems that the grey seats are not as abundant as the tan, and the leather and heaters help as well. I'm being told that I should be able to get $500 easily, so we'll see.
Anyone have any experience with the "ricer" seats that are all over ebay? Looks like you can get a pair shipped for around $200-$300. I just wonder if they're any good for an "occassional driver" like my rig has become?

as a former fast and furious type of guy, i'd say...it depends. if you're talking about the adjustable ones, then it might be a bit of a crap shoot. they're comfortable intially, but they aren't as well made as sparco's offerings so they turn to crap-probably even faster in the great outdoors rather than at the bubble tea shop.
if you're looking at the non-adjustable ones, the cheap ones have tubular frames that just aren't comfortable when you're moving around. the nicer ones are shells that are padded. the tubular frame ones are kinda like a hammack, but instead of nice soft fabric all the way around, imagine a hammack inside a steel cage. lame.

I've seen it.... in person :flipoff2:
Greg stay away from the cheap ricer seats, get some quality seats, you'll thank yourself in the end.... especially if you ever go end over end.

So how did the dirty hippy get to see it and all the guy who come over to help when you call get the shaft!

That's pretty much what I'm running right now. They have the cutout for the 4-point harness. The main reason I went with them was the adjustable seat back, the holes for the 4-point harness were higher than most (I am tall) and they were uber-cheap ($139 each). The biggest downside is that the black pleather gets really hot, really fast in the sun and heat of Moab.
If I could find some good fabric seats with adjustable backs and the holes higher I would go that route.

if you're really wanting a set, just look on ebay. the same manufacturers that make the pleather seats have fabric versions. also, corbeau is a decent name brand; not as nice as sparco/recaro, but you won't feel as bad spilling on them.

So Larry, other than the fabric choice, any other complaints? You feel they were worth the $$?
Cirbo, Jon actually came by the shop, rather than waiting for e-picts.:D

Nothing other than what I mentioned in the PM. In the end I think they were worth the money. After all $130 for each seat. Hard to beat. Eventually I will probably pony up for something else, but I've other fish to fry first.

Hey Greg, I've got a set of D-1 manual seats, need recovered, but good shape otherwise. Chop the legs and reattach to the floor mount, or tie to the cage?? Just a thought.

Damn! Now that one has snuck in, I bet more will try to follow.:barf:
:D
And thanks for the offer, but it looks like the problem lies in the floor pan more than the seats themselves. However, I've got plenty to do before I need to worry about my seats.:shaking:
I was just down at Checker Auto last night and noticed they are selling the seats I have for $250 for a set of 2. Not a bad deal really.

We don't have Checkers here. I imagine a PEP Boys or Adv Auto would be comparable though. Thanks for the heads-up.

I think Checker is just the local version of Schucks, Kragen and Advance Auto Parts. At least I think their all the same company.
